Legal to keep a machete/sword in DC hotel/personal vehicle?

I'll be glad when this thread is over so I can start one about "What's the best knife for when the Taliban invades Branson, Missouri?" We're thinking of going there soon. Scimitar, Broadsword or Kukri?

That DC arrest is an illustration of how the intent clause of dangerous weapon laws can be used. With the guy with the truck with the machete and bayonet you have to ask how that represents any intent, except for other circumstances. Perhaps like these. Sitting in a truck with no license plate, Nazi markings, near the Democratic National Building...with what can be considered weapons under certain circumstances.

Will an attorney get him off on the dangerous weapon charge? Maybe, since a truck with a couple of big knives isn't strange (regardless of what the truck is "decorated" with). Is it worth the cost in time and money? Probably not.

It does illustrate that having no credible explanation for a machete/sword that you've stated on the internet you intend to use as a weapon because you can't carry a firearm would certainly put you at risk of enhancing prosecution if you were force to use it.

I’m questioning if your wife really likes you? If my wife took me to those locations I’d think she’d have it in for me. I’d rather be tied to the front bumper of a car in a roundabout with her driving than go on that trip. All kidding aside, hope you can have a great time without incident.

I hear ya. We have family in both locations, mine in Alexandria, VA and hers in Garden City and Long Island, NY. She's been begging me for years and I relented. This will be the 4th trip to NY... each visit being more of a headache. That said, she's made many concessions for me (such as allowing my safes in her walk-in closet).
I'll certainly make a serious attempt to enjoy myself even if my situation awareness will be cranked to 11. It does promote a keen sense of urgency in maintaining my gun rights where I live.
