Recently, my significant other announced her plan to drag me to New York City at the end of July for a week to celebrate my birthday and show me some sites she was fond of when growing up in Brooklyn. I know my CCW for North Carolina won't be worth jack there, but I'm curious if I can at least carry my knife in "The City That Never Sleeps", legally anyway.
As I have for nearly a decade, I carry a Benchmade Stryker with a 3.7" blade.

I have recently retired my first Stryker for use around the house while my new Stryker (with slightly repositioned thumb disk and D2 steel).
As the first, my Stryker is not spring assisted. Despite this, I can flick the blade open every bit as fast as any spring-assisted blade, just without the compexities and additional parts. However, is this knife legal for carry in NYC? I plan to carry it as I always do, IWB with the pocket-clip concealed under my belt.

I do recall some criterion concerning blade length and the legality of concealed knives in NYC from some literature I read a while back, but a google search isn't helping me any.

Thanks in advance!

For more details on the knife that may help answer this question, the exact knife can be found at this link:

I'm not sure if they have a blade length restriction, but I'm pretty sure they have some rather strict laws on what is considered a gravity knife. I spent some time in New York on business in years past and made a point to tighten the pivot slightly on my AFCK to be sure it couldn't be flicked open in case of an encounter with NY's "Finest". I have heard some horror stories regarding NY and how easy it is for a knife to be considered a "gravity knife". I believe the AXIS lock series would be illegal in NY unless the pivot was tightened to the point of uselessness. Some NYPD people have mentioned if they can "flick" the knife open, then they consider it a gravity knife, and thus illegal, etc.

Blade length is a concern, I believe it is 3". Used the method of laying blade sideways across fingers if it protrudes past fingers it's illegal to carry. Also Double edged knives, and of course Auto's. In this day and age with all the scares and whatnot I do not no what a Cop considers Gravity Knife. Carried a DA Microtech 3.5" blade for years in the city, had cops take in a search and hand right back because Button is hidden. But I said its for my work in construction yadda yadda. I would leave it home if you do not want to take chance, most sights have metal detectors, Empire State Building, some others not sure about Aquarium.Since 9/11 some police have become more zealous so I would not carry in certain places, just walking around though I would not fear a take down lol, would be concerned about entering Buildings and sights and stuff like that. They may take and give back but why try it.

Also, it is against NYC law to carry an exposed knife. I have heard that this includes kinves in sheaths, clipped to pockets, etc...Keep it totally concealed. It is a crime to do otherwise. I have heard that cops do enforce these ordinances- it helps them meet and exceed their quotas.

You will go through multiple metal detectors, 'specially at tourist sights but elsewhere as well. Many places are 'zero tolerance'.

On the very rare occassions that I go I carry a SAK. There have been some stories of arrests because the cops labled one handed folders as gravity knives. If you carry one of these make sure the pivot is tight so the blade cannot be flicked open. I stick with a SAK and an impact tool like a Comtech Stinger or flashlight that makes an improvised kubaton.
