Legality of automatic/assisted-opening knives?

I believe the Federal switchblade act was passed in 1953 in response to juvenile crimes being committed with them.

Only a few companies then made switchblades (auto knives).

I believe most interstate commerce in these knives deals with parts that are then assembled into a complete knife in another state.

Is that even legal???

There is actually quite a few that are imported from overseas (illegally) annually. Customs actually busted one importer within the past 6 months- year.

So is it legal to interstate commerce the parts for a auto knife?

Just asking.

I am not sure about that but

in the early 80's you could buy switch blade knife kits and I was told they were legal until they were put together

I live where switchblades are legal. Nobody carries them, I don't either. I always carry a fixed blade. Switchblades have the habbit of not opening when you really need them. They are nice toys, but they don't make sense for everyday carry.
Of course I can understand that folks just want to have them and don't want any stupid knife laws, I have one too. But switchbaldes don't make sense.

I used to see 'switchblade kits' for sale as well where they left some some key parts but sold the rest.

In quite a few european countries, Austria, Czech Republic and Germany among them.
