I'm tossing the idea around in my head, again, on getting a 308 Winchester gas operated rifle. I've wanted one for quite awhile.

The M1A/M14 is one that is at or near the top of the list of wants.

I'm a bit surprised at the price for the standard, plain jane M1A that Springfield Armory sells. $1,300 to $1,400 for the standard and $1,500 or more for the Loaded model.

Several AR-15 makers offer a pretty big LEO/Military discount to individuals. In other words, individuals buying these weapons themselves and not having to go through department or supply channels.

By chance, does Springfield Armory or perhaps a maker of some other 308 Winchester gas operated rifle have such a discount?

I bet those AR15 makers are not paying the federal excise tax on the LEO-discounted rifles, same as Glock's ~$75 price difference for LEOs.

To buy one under that type of "discount" with no intention of using it during police work is not appreciated by the ATF, IIRC.

The FET is paid on individual officer sales. Agency price is lower.
