Want a nice range gun.

Different directions to go...

Les Baer Premier II

(or other Les Baer)

SIG 226 X5 Tactical

My current gun is a HK P2000SK 9mm I use for carry.

It would be nice to own a nice 1911.

The 226 X5 Tactical is in 9mm which is what I have and I had a P229 and like the quality of SIG if ya get a good example.

The LB PII and 226 X5 Tac are the same price, just under $1400.

I have smallish hands- so the 1911 would be a better grip, but the 226 isn't bad.

Hmmmm....

What say you folks?

Both are great guns, it's a tough choice. As you said, the 1911 will probably fit you better. But you're already familiar with Sigs, so you should take that into account as well.

Personally, I'd get the Baer. It's a great looking gun, it is a nice 1911. I want to get one myself someday.

As always it boils down to personal choice. Sig is a very nice gun, but is nowhere in the same class as a Les Baer. I really liked my Sig, but I have never shot a gun like my PII. It is crazy accurate. Another plus, is the few times I called LB I have talked to him twice. I mean the man answers his own phone.

More of an anecdote than a vote 'cause I don't think I'd go against a Les Baer but a few months ago I was standing next to a gentleman at the range who was shooting shotgun patterns with his CZ (don't know which model). It made me feel all superior until I looked over and saw he was suddenly drilling the X with every shot. That's when I noticed he had switched to an X5.

I have the X-Five Comp. and LOVE it. No doubt the sweetest, smoothest shooting pistol I have ever tried. Runs circles around my Kimber, but the longer sight radius might have something to do with it. 9mm is cheaper to shoot as well. Good luck, Sammy

Both are great pistols (as well they should be, for the price you pay) and for me it would boil down to whether I was in the market for a 9mm or a .45 Auto. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to shoot an X5 last year (dunno if it was a tactical or not) and I remember thinking "Darn, if this pistol doesn't make me look good!" As nice a shooter as it was, I probably won't be adding one to my collection. I'm one of those guys who thinks having a nice .45 Auto is a requirement in any collection.
