No really, I do have a serious question. It has probably been over-done, but brand wars are always fun. Is the Walther P22 as accurate as the Ruger MK series or the Browning Buckmark? Is it as reliable? I believe the prices are about the same. I have some Christmas money to spend, and I figure a 22 caliber pistol is a cheap way to improve my shooting skills. I think I really want a Buckmark, but I haven't heard much about the P22. Thanks in advance.

A war between the Walther P22 and the Browning Buckmark would be like a war between the US and Canada. I'll let you decide which side represents which gun.

Short barrel and corresponding short sight radius leave the P22 no match for the bigger guns even if the trigger was as good. Still the P22 is a fun plinker and much easer to carry when out walking about for that plinking opportunity to arise.

I think you'll improve your shooting faster with either of the larger guns. Read the other Buckmark vs. Ruger threads, its all been said before. IMHO can't go wrong with either of them.

But even as a plinker, the P22 still loses overall because there is not an "Ultimate clip loader" (www.mcfadden.com) tool for it :)

No.

Is it as reliable?

From the information I've been able to gather, no. I own a Ruger MKI. Used to have a Buckmark (should have kept it). Both were incredibly reliable. Only problems I've had involve field stripping the MK I and the fact that with the Browning design you have to remove the rear sight (thus potentially losing your zero) when you field strip (& you get the added bonus of the rear sight platform loosening during fire). I known a bunch of semi-serious target guys who have Walther P22s. The only thing that gets a lower rating is the Sig Mosquito. I'm still tempted to buy a P22 for the cool factor, but I want a .22 revolver more.

How about a conversion kit?

marksman13- what existing platforms(pistols) do you have? I had a Ruger MK512 that I got rid of when I was only shooting the .22 conversion for my 1911

Rugers are solid same with the Brownings I havn't seen many Walthers shooting pins or steel plates and I personally think that the only redeeming quality of the Walter is that it comes pre threaded for a supressor as I don't especially care for its ergonomics or its magazine release safety. This is not a bash of Walthers in general as I love the PP & PPK's and longuns I just don't care for the P22

Get a Glock and be done w/ it :neener:

I love brand wars...just goes to show there is ALOT of quality in modern firearms :D Get what works for you & practice practice practice...enjoy! ;)

The P22s are not as accurate as the Rugers. I have a P22 and my best friend has a 22/45. As long as you find what kind of ammo your P22 likes, it should be reliable. Mine likes the Federal bulk pack from Walmart and will have maybe one or two malfunctions per box. My wife put 300 rounds through it yesterday and had no malfunctions.

If you want a gun for accuracy get the Ruger. If you want a gun for fun, then the P22 is a good option.

Is there a .22 cal conversion for the SA-XD...I'm pretty sure there isn't. I think I am gonna get the Buckmark. I just need an excuse do buy another pistol, I don't really like the feel of the Ruger. Thanks for helping me to decide that the Walther isn't for me.

There are other kinds of 22 autos besides the Ruger Mk's and the Buckmarks?
Well, I'll be...

Really, those two are hard to beat for the performance/cost quotients. If you wanted to upgrade, try a Clark Custom Ruger...looks like a dynamite gun to me.

Ruger is King in 22 pistol and rifle Both are best buy for money To bad Ruger can't get rest of their auto guns up to par . mini -14 and them ugly autos:barf:

Excuse me? You couldn't have picked a better analogy??

I was looking at the 345 today real close, handled it. That is a nice pistol. You may want to take look at it. It is definitely on my to buy list.

Only qualm I have, is the DA trigger reach is a little long, not bad, though.

Sure LOOKS like trolling - - -

Why else would someone disguise a serious request to LOOK like trying to pick a fight?

You might want to start over . . .
