I thought I had a bunch more pics of targets than the one I posted up above somewhere, but the truth is I only still have a few saved on the PC. No other pics of pistol targets, but I have some of shotgun and rifle targets. So here they are.
The first pic is 25 rounds out of a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun, shot rapid fire from seated at the bench, at 50 yards (range rules must shoot from seated at the bench).
The next is of a Marlin bolt action .22 Magnum target at 50 yards, from the bench, using a scope, elbows supported on bench. I figured it was sighted in good enough for me for a squirrel hunt.
The next is Brendan's target with same rifle at same distance. A little low and to the left, but certainly a better group than mine had been. Good feeling when you kids begin to shoot better than you - isn't it! Must have taught him something right!
The next is also at 50 yards, six shots from the bench, seated, elbows on bench, shooting a Marlin 336 with 200 grain .35 Remington. Brendan was getting ready for an upcoming bear hunt. This was in 2006. While the group is good enough for hunting, he practiced a lot more, and got a lot better - no other pics though, except for the end result that I'll also show.
The end result of the practice with the Marlin 336, a shot at about 35 yards if I remember right. Single shot, took out the heart. The hole in the rib cage would actually have been at a different angle than shown, the part of the rib cage closest to the viewer was actually cut away from the spine. Brendan could not have had a better shot on his first big game hunt. The kill was almost immediate, the bear was hit, did a somersault, pawed the ground once of twice and that was it. Small bruin, young adult, at about 100-125 lbs or so, but a bigger smile you never saw. He had the shakes after that shot for at least a couple of minutes.
All the best,
Glenn B
