What will a well fitted Wilson Combat barrel and a bit of trigger work do?

The only pic I have right now is one I had posted on my blog, the others are on my PC at home. Suffice it to say at this hour I am not home yet.

This is a pic of a target I had set at 7 yards. I shot it with my Ortgies pocket pistol in .32Auto. Slow to medium rate of fire, two hand hold, no support. I had not fired it in quite a while; and I was using a different brand of ammo than I had ever used before. Shot a bit high to the right, but not a bad group at 1 5/8 inches at it widest spread. Oh yeah, it was 14 rounds, all the ammo I had in its 2 mags. I forgot the boxes of ammo for it at home. As you can see, you don't need a fancy pistol with adjustbale sights to hit pretty decently at that distance. The Ortgies was made back in the 1920s and has abominable sights at best. Here is a link to the blog about that day at the range: http://ballseyesboomers.blogspot.com/2008/05/twice-in-week-at-range.html

And now for something completely different...

20 yards, S&W 627-0, Modified Weaver, double and single action, Home cast Lyman #358429 170g Keith over 15.5g W296, WSP.

Hot load to say the least.

I started out double action for head shots and I noticed a pattern - the mouth, so I went single action for the eyes and nose.

You like?

I thought I had a bunch more pics of targets than the one I posted up above somewhere, but the truth is I only still have a few saved on the PC. No other pics of pistol targets, but I have some of shotgun and rifle targets. So here they are.

The first pic is 25 rounds out of a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun, shot rapid fire from seated at the bench, at 50 yards (range rules must shoot from seated at the bench).

The next is of a Marlin bolt action .22 Magnum target at 50 yards, from the bench, using a scope, elbows supported on bench. I figured it was sighted in good enough for me for a squirrel hunt.

The next is Brendan's target with same rifle at same distance. A little low and to the left, but certainly a better group than mine had been. Good feeling when you kids begin to shoot better than you - isn't it! Must have taught him something right!

The next is also at 50 yards, six shots from the bench, seated, elbows on bench, shooting a Marlin 336 with 200 grain .35 Remington. Brendan was getting ready for an upcoming bear hunt. This was in 2006. While the group is good enough for hunting, he practiced a lot more, and got a lot better - no other pics though, except for the end result that I'll also show.

The end result of the practice with the Marlin 336, a shot at about 35 yards if I remember right. Single shot, took out the heart. The hole in the rib cage would actually have been at a different angle than shown, the part of the rib cage closest to the viewer was actually cut away from the spine. Brendan could not have had a better shot on his first big game hunt. The kill was almost immediate, the bear was hit, did a somersault, pawed the ground once of twice and that was it. Small bruin, young adult, at about 100-125 lbs or so, but a bigger smile you never saw. He had the shakes after that shot for at least a couple of minutes.

All the best,
Glenn B

One more pic. Tis one is my wife's target. She was shooting a scoped Marlin 56 Levermatic. I think it was 25yards. It was 5 shots from seated at the bench, elbows on bench.

Not bad considering this was her first and last time shooting.

All the best,
GB

Some good shooting going on here. I have never kept a target or took a picture of one. After seeing this I might do it some time.

Just a question, when folks say "Off hand" do you mean a two handed non braced hold, as in the Weaver or isosceles stances? Or do you mean a one handed bullseye stance as in NRA bullseye competitions. I tend to think of "offhand" as the latter.

offhand to me, and as far as i know to the others means, two hands, in your prefered stance no brace or support. i call shooting one handed strong or weak, strong is right hand as i am right handed and weak is my left.

i don't really like to shoot supproted as it tells the accuracy of the gun but it dosen't improve your shooting, and it is not realistic, at 50 and 100yds then yeah i about have too. that is one reason i never used those hammer rest and ransom rest contraptions, as it is cool to know how good your gun can shoot, but i prefer to keep it realistic and have every human factor in there as possible, to see how good I can shoot with it, not how good some machine can.

M2, i know what your saying, and can you believe that out of four guys, I was the only one that got a perfect score in my class two weeks ago. BTW they changed the target and region for the center mass. You still would have passed wth the new requirements, however.

Yes, I renewed last Saturday using the new target. (but I still have some old targets left)
I'm very disappointed in my shooting this time.

The range/school I shoot at requires that you shoot only their Glock 17 and their ammo. These guns have a LOT of wear. I haven't shot there that one or two guns doesn't keep jamming. Just one constantly jammed Saturday.
The G17 I had shot left and was a little inaccurate and I don't like Glocks anyhow but that's no reason for the poor shooting.

Oh well, it's a 250/250.
Now I'm good for 10 years unless the rules are changed.
Just have to renew the paperwork in another five years.

M2,

Where are you requalifying that they will only let you use their gun and ammo?

Colt Delta Elite, freehand, 30ft. I won't say no to a chance at shooting one of these:

25ft with a student's Bersa .380. Who says cheap guns can't shoot?

Sig P220, 15 yards, freehand. Done to demonstrate the differing POI between 185gr CorBon (bottom) and Black Hills 230gr (bullseye).

And, while I know this is the "autoloader" forum, S&W 696, 8 yards, first four cylinders I shot with it, all in DA:

696_240_200_sm.jpg

Of course, half my new students think "revolvers suck :scrutiny:," so to prove them wrong, S&W 67 at ~50ft:

Im really liking this gun alot!

This takes a bit O explaining.

Below the top group was shot at 15 yards from a Weaver stance single action and the group below shot with the same two types of ammo but at 25 yards from a Weaver. The holes marked by the felt tip pen were made by Winchester 38 Spl. +P 158 gr. LSWCHP. The holes marked by the ink pen were made by a 148 gr. WC target load. The gun is a S&W K frame M&P what became the M10. The boxes are about 3" square.

MP25yds4.jpg

For comparason the groups below were shot from a rest at 25 yards but with different ammo. A 148 gr. WC from Black Hills and Speers 158 gr +P jacketed load.

I shot these last Friday after work. Not all that great, but a requirement for an upcoming CCW class is to be able to keep 10rds in a 3X5 index card at 7yds slow fire. I was mainly doing this for the Kahr b/c thats what Ill be using in the class, I just shot the others for the heck of it.
