I am not sure if the Carpati was a milsurp or just a foreign pistol...

Well I can't seem to find pictures of a few of them (so I'll have to add to this later) but here's a wee sample:

DSC01450.jpg
Yugoslavian M24/47 in 8mm Mauser (it picked up a Yugo M48 stock somewhere along it's path, possibly when rearsenaled).

DSC01488.jpg
Steyr-Mannlicher M95 in 8x56r

0422110107.jpg
Yugoslavian M57 Tokarev.

I'll have to find or take some more pictures of the others. Nice thread!

AethelstanAegen, not to nitpick, but the sling on your 24/47 should come through the butstock from the other side.

It actually comes through both sides. As it's an M48 stock on an M24/47 rifle, the sling mount in the front (under the gun) doesn't match up with the rear (which is the K98 style side sling slot, as you know). I've never liked the way the K98 slings work (only really good for carry unless you tack the end down), so I just used a different type of sling which loops through the sling slot in the stock (you can't really see it come out the other side and connect in the picture), allowing me to use the sling for support while shooting as I often do, especially while shooting offhand, etc.

But you're right, if that were a K98 style sling it would definitely need to go through the other side or be all funky and weird. I do have one of the K98 style slings kicking around somewhere, but I just don't like them much.

FinFan....I was just blasting through this thread looking at the pics and saw the carcano with the SA stamp....WOW what a find....don't see that every day.

I really like that Steyr! I had a chance to buy its brother for $125, but waited too long in my search and instead ended up with the above-pictured Gewehr 1888 Commission Rifle in 7,92x57j.

Since both are handloading propositions, I guess I will be looking for a Steyr again soon. I understand the brass can be formed from 7,62x54r cases, right?

Are the bullets 0.318, 0.323, or other..?

Thanks!

Regards,

Josh

P.S. Because some folks on another board hate on me each time I mention it, I've made a point of mentioning that I got the Gew88 for $37.50 OUT THE DOOR! Hehehe! Regards, J.S.

Well, I was going to answer your question, but this just put me in a spiteful mood...hahaha. Congrats on an awesome find! I'd love to pick one of those up some day (as well as serveral others from this thread).

J&G has them for about $140 now and last I check SOG had a some for around $120...so you may still have a chance to pick one up cheap (I think the limited ammo supply is keeping the prices down).

I've heard this before but have not tried it myself. It's my most recently acquired milsurp, so I haven't started reloading for it yet. I picked up 20 of Bulgarian 1940s surplus rounds and a few boxes of the new Prvi Partisan...so I'll probably be trying to reload those cases for a while before attempting any brass reforms.

Are the bullets 0.318, 0.323, or other..?

Other. It's an odd-ball 0.329" There are European manufactures that sell the bullets (the aforementioned Prvi Partisan and some company in Germany). If I recall correctly, Lyman sells a cast for the round, Lee has a bullet sizing die so you swag some from a .338" and Corbins has a swaging die as well. Once again, I haven't yet purchased or tried any of these yet, but it's on my list to do. I'm really enjoying the feel of the Steyr (it's a nice size with a good balance IMO) so if I can get a good reload figured out (or if the Prvi Partisan SPs shoot well) I may actually try it for hunting in the near future. We'll see though. It does kick like a mule, so not for everyone, but alot of fun to me.

LJ-MosinFreak-Buck ...Veeeery nice, StrawHat!...

Thank you, I wasn't sure if these were considered MilSurps in the current use of the phrase but they were both issued by the US Army and used until they were obsolete and sold on the open market. Both are a lot of fun to shoot, albeit a bit slower to reload than some of what I see posted. The top one is an 1873, built in 1878 and is chambered for the 45-70.

The brass fitted one has the barreled action from an 1866 Trapdoor fitted to the lock and stock from an Italian replica of the 1841 Mississippi rifle. It fires the 50-70 cartridge.

Here's a weird one I found recently - It's an M44 style Mosin Nagant, but made from a strange collection of parts. It's a 1922 Tula receiver (marked under the rear tang), a 1929 Ishevsk barrel, and a very early M91 flat rear sight. That combination of parts really shouldn't exist, but there's no evidence of any recent work on it. So maybe it was assembled in China (they got some old M91s) or maybe who knows what?
