Okay, Mods, I promise, last picture request for awhile. :)

See, I like S&W revolvers. But really, the only ones that interest me are N-Frames. Every time I consider a .357 Magnum, I think Ruger. (Strange, I know, but the 686 only interests me slightly, and the K-Frames not at all.)

So let's see your Ruger .357 Magnums, and let's hear about your favorite hotloads for them. GP100s, SP101s, the older "Six" series revolvers, Blackhawks, you name it.

Oh, if anybody has a .357 Redhawk, please, if you can, post a picture of the rear of the cylinder. I'd like to see how much steel is between the chambers on that beast!

Oh, and who has a .357 Vaquero? You don't hear much about them.

Nothing special here, but it's a start.

Here is my SP101 new.

Here it is with Hogue grips that it no longer wears.

Gary,

I've never carried it. If I did, it would go in a cheap Uncle Mike's belt slide that works well for my other medium frame wheelguns.

My carry gun of choice is a 2" S&W Model 15. I bought the Ruger just 'cause I liked it. :)

I have an SP101, GP100, Blackhawk, and two .357 Redhawks. I have owned a couple of the Security Six revolvers. Pictures of them can be easily seen on the Ruger website.
If I think of it later, I will get a picture of the cylinder of the redhawk for you.

My wintertime In-the-Woods revolver. A 6 inch Security 6 in Stainless.

Still working on my heavy, long range load. But it seems that the little 160gr bullets are a good field compromise.

Lemme tell you, them 200gr round nose would be the cats meow for a strictly long range proposition. She's sighted in for full power 38 140gr SWC at 20 yards....but toss in them heavy loaded 357 200s and it's shooting 2 1/2 to 3 foot high at 200 yards.

I really enjoy and TRUST the SP-101. I own two. They are basically my reach for gun in my two automobiles. The first one I bought was the 2 1/4 shrouded hammer (double action only). The second one is in 3 inch (they are not available with the shrouded hammer).

Question for RINGER - I have the Hogues on one of my SPs and am fairly sure I shoot it better (also hand hurts less after a bit of shooting), so probably will replace the stock grips on my other. Did you find the Hogues unsatisfactory, and if so, why?

Miami357

I do like the way the Hogues feel and they fit my hand much better than the standard grips. What I don't like about them is the way the rubber snags clothing. I often carry the gun OWB like in the picture with an untucked shirt as cover garment and found the shirt getting caught up while bending over or reaching up. Hogue does make a similar grip in Nylon that was I was going to try but I ended up with Crimson Trace grips.

If I were using the gun primarily as a car or house gun I probably would have stuck with Hogue rubber grips.

I love the Houges on my SP...I don't find that they snag too bad for me(I wear loose clothes)It's made a HUGE difference in accuracy and recoil control for me,they seem to fit my hand perfectly...

Not the best picture

But here is a picture or my GP 100 wearing a Hogue Rosewood grip that I purchased in the classifieds.

Nightcrawler, Here is your requested picture of the rear of a Redhawk 357 cylinder:

And here are four Ruger 357s showing relative cylinder size L to R:

My first pistol.

Seen a lot of use in the last 12 years and many many many rounds downrange.

I'm sorely tempted to send it out to Clements Custom Guns to get converted to .44spl.

Hmm....no blued GP-100's yet? Well, guess I'll be the first...

Oh, Nubbins. I can't find the pic right now. My only .357 revo is a "Sheriff's Model Limited Edition" Vaquero in glossy stainless. Very short barrel, about 3-1/2". The cylinder base pin looks more like a glossy nail.

A nice gun, kyoung. The short-shroud, 6" GP is the "Finger of God" model, to quote another THR member.

As to those factory grips, I think they look a lot less homely on a blued gun like yours than they do on stainless models. (My own GP100 is a 4" "target gray" stainless, and I did feel the aesthetic need to swap the stock grips for Pachmayr Grippers.)

And the GP100's ugly stock grips are functional. In my experience they do a great job of cushioning the recoil from hot .357 loads. The Pachmayrs are slimmer, handier, and better looking -- I really like them -- but they do not soak up heavy recoil as well. I stick to mid-strength .357s and .38+Ps, so it's a good grip. But if I were on a steady diet of Armscors, Buffalo Bores, or psycho handloads, the stock grips would stay put.

GP100 & SP101
Both have been bead blasted with polished cylinder flutes. The SP wears a pair of Eagle Secret Service grips and a Trijicon front sight.
The GP has Hogue grips and a Millet front sight.
Both have Wolff springs installed also.
