Bought a VX-2 (1X4) from Brownell's with my Eotech refund and zeroed it in today (300BLK AR). It was on paper at 50yds, but 3 inches to the right and 3 1/2 inches low. I adjusted the elevation knob- and my group stayed 3.5" low but moved to the left! Checked the scope mount and ring screws- all good. Everything was apprpriately torqued. Decided to adjust the windage- then my group wandered off the paper. Looked at everything over again. Really puzzled. Thought it was odd that the elevation knob was on the side, and that the windage knob was on the top but it didn't click (no pun intended) until I backtracked my adjustments to get back on paper. The knobs were switched- and once I realized this I was able to zero it in within a couple of minutes. Now that I know, it's not a big deal. I don't even know if it's worth returning to get fixed since I've got it working the way I want. Just wondering if anyone else ever had that happen to them.

In the 1970's , had a Redfield come back from repair with the knobs reversed. Still using it. If you think you may sell or trade it one day, it should be fixed.

You sure the scope doesn't need to be rotated 90 degrees?
That was my thought, too.

Funny thing is - I have a Leupold 6x42 on one of my rifles where the scope is rotated 90 degrees.

Deliberately.

With the 'scope in low rings - my preferred height - I found that every once in a while, the turret adjustment would interfere with ejection. Rotating the scope 90 degrees CCW increased clearance for ejected empties, and the problem disappeared. I just have to remember the rotation if I ever have to re-zero the scope.

Which side of the rifle is the elevation knob on??

The elevation knob is on top like every other scope I've ever used- but it is a windage knob (ie., has the arrow --> and "R"), and the opposite for the windage knob (which is on the side- it has the elevation knob.
I don't think I can switch them out myself- or at least Leupold states the knobs shouldn't be removed or lubed. I have no intention of getting rig of it, so I probably won't send it back.

It's oriented properly- I thought that was the mistake I had made, but it's correct (gold dot for magnification ring is up/on top).

Knobs just got accidentally switched during assembly far as I can tell.

i bought a like new used 4x leupold that was the same way, sent it back and recieved a brand new one in return. eastbank.

The turrets physically adjust the position of the erector tube inside the scope... even if the label is wrong, the turret on top of the scope (vertically in line with the bore) should adjust elevation, and the side turret should adjust windage.

Either they labeled the turrets wrong and you were a little too trusting of those markings, or the scope has some incredibly interesting interior mechanics and I'd love to see the inside of it.

Note that even if you rotate the scope 90 degrees, the top turret (vertically in line with the bore) is still going to adjust elevation, and the other will still adjust windage, regardless of the label.

Redfield 2x7

Heres mine. Up & Right are both turned counter clockwise to adjust. Just envision the correct one, when making adjustments. If this scope is installed with the knob on the left, things go wrong ,fast.
