Leupold is now offering the M5 (milrad) conversion on specific Mark 4 scopes. According to their product specialists, they can do the conversion on the following Mark 4 scopes:

ER/T
LR/T (3.5-10x only)

The conversion costs about $90 which includes return shipping as far as I can tell. Leupold received two of my scopes today so I should have them back in a couple of weeks.

Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M1 Front Focal TM Reticle
Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M3 Illum. TM Reticle

These scopes sit on an AR308 and a SA58 PARA so having matched milrad reticles and adjustments will be an improvement and worth the cost. The M3 adjustments on one of the scopes are 1 MOA elevation and 1/2 MOA windage. The M5 adjustments will be 0.1 milrad elevation/windage.

very surprising, but very cool

Leupold has been selling M5 (milrad) equipped front focal and second focal plane scopes for a while now but it took them a while to figure out the retrofit ... not sure why. I'm also not sure why they've limited the upgrade to just a few scopes. If they offered it for my other LR/T scopes I'd send them in too. They sell an LR/T 8.5-25x50mm M5 but don't offer the upgrade on existing models with the same magnification range. The other thing that irks me a little with Leupold is that they don't offer all the desirable features in the same scope. For example, front focal and illuminated reticle can't be had together.

I need a new scope for my AWM chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum so will be looking at Premier again ... and maybe S&B and USO since all three actually offer every feature you could want in one optic. If Nightforce got a move on and offered something like a 5-25x56mm F1 I'd give them a look too.
