Looking to upgrade the scope on my .338 win mag. I am leaning towards an illuminated reticle this time because I mainly use the rifle for bear hunting. I have narrowed my choices to the Leupold vx3 hd 3.5-10 firedot and the trijicon accupoint 3-9. The power rangers are perfect for the distances I hunt and they are both very durable. I was leaning slightly more towards the trijicon because of the battery free illumination and extreme durability, but slightly afraid if the 3.6" eye relief for a .338 win mag.

I have a non-illuminated vx- 3 HD, and am quite happy with it. I've only ever used the Leupold fire dot on another friend's gun and don't generally use illuminated reticles at all but I found it pretty nice.

I have used a accupoint but only at the range and it was a larger heavier model. I don't remember being horribly impressed by that image quality but the scope wasn't adjusted to my eye. The reticle illumination though is really cool, and quite effective even in direct sunlight.

Were I choosing based on my experience, I would probably go with the leupold, just because if I remember correctly it's lighter and I remember liking the glass better.
Honestly I think either would be a really good option, as with any number of other manufacturers scopes lol.

I've got a couple Leupold VX6S and a VX3HD with illuminated reticles and they're on their original batteries. I do have an holder MKS 6.5-20 that's on its 2nd battery. I'm going to by another VX6S HD with illuminated reticle in another couple months when it's in stock.

For regular use, the batteries last a long time. If it's a concern, just put in a fresh one at the start of the season.

I've got a 3.5-10 on my M7 in .223 and am very happy with it.

I’ve had an Accupoint 3-9x mildot for several years. Getting a second this summer hopefully for another rifle. Also have a Leupold VX-R Fire dot. Weight and glass quality are very close. For me it comes down to reticle for given application. Can’t go wrong with either in this price range.

I mostly hunt in afternoons from ground blinds, so at this point, I won't own a hunting rifle without an illuminated reticle. Seems like the deer around me love the last few minutes of legal shooting time- of which the illumination is considerably diminished in thick tree cover from inside of a ground blind.

My go to scope has always been the Leupold vx3 series. It performs excellent in low light, even at dawn/dusk. I would be buying another of those, but it's getting harder to quickly find a black crosshair on black fur in low light. I want to upgrade the redfield that's on it so I figured I might as well spend the extra $150 and go illuminated.

The firedot on the Leupold's for hunting is the best illumination in my opinion. It is unobtrusive, and only lit at the point which matters. Too often scopes are geared towards tactical applications where drops, circles and the like are illuminated and in a hunting scenario is way too much for me.

For me on a hunting rifle 9 times out of 10 I'm going with a Leupold scope. Their clarity, low-light performance, generous eyebox, weight, toughness and customer service are all real hunting attributes.
