In THIS recent thread, I expounded on my lever scout Marlin 1894c using a Leupold Scout Scope and QRW (Quick Release Weaver) rings. I chose these rings because: A) They're low, and you want a good low mount for a scout mounted scope; and B) They're supposed to return to zero when you whip the scope off (very easy) and remount it (equally easy).

Today was the first time I've been able to shoot the rifle after having mounted, demounted, and remounted the scope. When I finished shooting last time out, I had put a group of 9 XTP FPs (158 grs) into a 2" group at 70 yards. That group was centered about an inch and a half above my Point of Aim.

My first group this morning--5 of the same bunch of XTP FPs, moving a bit better than 1800 fps at the muzzle, measured 1.5" from center to center at 100 yards, 'benched' on my range bag. That, to me, is testimony to the excellence of the rifle and the bullet (other 357 bullets don't shoot quite that good in my rifle). What surpised me a little, though, was the consistency of zero with the removed and replaced scope: this group is centered about 1.3 inches NNW of the POA--in other words, almost perfectly aligned with where it was last time. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised, because that's what the Leupold rings say they're supposed to do, and lord knows you pay enough for them to work. But it's wonderful to find that they live up to their claim, at least so far, in my experience.

Here's the group (target was tacked up sideways) and my bullet of choice:

I had a set on my 700P for a while and had pretty much the same experience. They were were never off more than 1/4 MOA or so. Good, inexpensive rings.
