Anyone use the leupold quick release base and rings? I am getting ready to setup a marlin 1895 45-70 and want to go with a good base and ring set i can remove to use irons but still use the scope. Im torn between leupold quick release rings and a weaver base or the leupold bases that allow you to unsnap the rings but that doesn't seem very sturdy IMO.

I've mounted a few for customers and never heard any complaints.

I prefer the Warne QD system but do not have a quantifiable reason why.

I'd have to get mine out to measure to be sure, but off of the cuff, I'm prone to bet the Leupold QD mount will be too tall to use the factory iron sights on a Marlin 1895. A standard pic weaver rail is taller on top of the receiver than the rear sight height on the barrel, and I'm fairly certain the Leupold QD bases are thicker than the EGW or Weaver standard thickness rails.

I have a set. They work, but I no longer use them. The mounts weighed as much as the scope. I've used standard Weaver, or Weaver style for years and found them to return to zero just fine.

I just installed a set of Leupold QR bases and rings on a .375 H&H. (the ones with the levers to remove) they are holding up fine. With the scope removed, I can still see the irons.

@Stubert, am I right to assume that .375H&H isn't a Marlin 1895?

Multiple reviewers at Midway claim they're unable to use the irons on their Marlins even with the scope removed as the base is too thick.

No not a Marlin, it's a model 70 Alaskan. Leupold makes 2 different removable mounts, the QR and the QD. I am not familiar with the QD rings. I do have an 1895GS, it wears a set of Williams firesights and a peep.
