Has anyone used a Leupold shotgun scope with the turkey plex reticle on a rifle? I'm thinking about putting a 1-4x20 vx-I on a 30-30 I have to shoot hogs at under 100 yards, probaby closer to 75. I don't like the heavy duplex reticle in the shotgun scopes, and I'd prefer to not pay an extra $100 to get the vx-II rifle 1-4x20 with a duplex or wide duplex reticle. Does the turkey plex reticle subtend too much of the target for use out to 100yds? I know it is designed to cover a gobbler's whole head at 40 yds.
I've got other rifles that would do the job, I'm mostly trying to rationalize getting the scope to myself, but I would prefer it to work for what I want to use it for.

I use one on my 22 Bolt action. Works well for squirrels closer than 50 yards, Prob would work well on bigger piggies-

I investigated the possibility of using the "turkey scope" on a rifle and I don't recall what the reason was but I decided there was something about it that made it inappropriate for rifle use. Maybe the adjustment, or something. Anyway, I suspect you would be happier getting the proper rifle scope.

I have two of the Leupold 1-4x20s and I like them. I bought one brand new on Gun Broker for $289 (duplex) and I found a nearly perfect used one on ebay (tapered crosshairs) with a $159 buy it now. Look around.

Bunch of guys I shoot with use them at our local rifle matches. 1.1-4X is pretty darn good when targets are from 3-300 yards and you don't know what the setup will be until you start shooting.

The principal difference between a shotgun scope and a high-power rifle scope is the distance they are set to be parallax free.

Shotgun / muzzle-loader scopes are set at 75 yards or so.

High-power rifle scopes are set between 100 - 150 yards.

.22 RF scopes are set at 50 - 60 yards.

In your case of hogs under 100 yards, a shotgun scope would be perfect.

The parallax shouldn't be a problem. Literally the farthest lane I have available to shoot at the hogs is about 120 yards, and that is pretty rare. My main concern is if the reticle is too busy to shoot that far without covering most of my target. Most of the hogs are 60-200 lbs. Usually around 140. You guys are helping! Keep it up!

SaxonPig- That full stocked BRNO is beautiful! They both are, but I have a soft spot for mannlicher stocks.
