I am about to buy a scope for my Remington .270. I am planning on buying the Leupold VX-II 3x-9x scope. My .270 is stainless steel and was wanting the silver finish on the scope. Would that make a differnce or anything to the scope

Think it should be the same, but you really might want to consider a little higher magnification...I have a 4-12x on my .30-06, and wish I'd gotten a 4.5-14 or maybe even a notch bigger, and you'll be looking at very similar ballistics.

A VX-II 3-9x40 in silver sounds perfect, moody22. As GM says, there are different shades of stainless steel. Some bright, some subdued. Same with scopes. I think you'll be happy.

The scope's finish is a bit more "silver paint" style than "stainless steel" style--it's a painted aluminum scope. The 3-9x is a great scope, but what distances are you planning on shooting at? The VX-II is a great piece of glass, and is an excellent value for the money. And no, it's not going to make a differnece to the scope's function--it's an exterior thing only.

Just make sure to buy silver rings, as well.

Personally, I would rather have a matte blue scope and rings on a stainless rifle than a stainless finish scope with a different stainless look. I have 2 rifles set up like this and they look very nice. Both have black synthetic stocks.
If you plan to hunt with it, and that hunting involves any still hunting or stalking, don't go higher than 3x9 and keep that scope turned down unless you need the higher X for a deliberate, calculated long shot.

For hunting a matte black scope would be better. It looks good with a synthetic stock and a stainless bbl. Also check out the nikon monarch's, a little more scope for the money IMO.
