FWIW:
I've heard that story about "inferior" Quaker State Oil, rifles and other products being made specifically for, and sold "only" thru WalMart for DECADES..
I do not believe that to be true, nor have I ever seen any proof of it..
Quaker State oil is Quaker State Oil whether you buy the can from Wal Mart or your local "gas station" at a higher selling price.. Same oil.
If you buy a Marlin model 60, or a Henry rimfire rifle at your local Wally World you can bet it's the same Marlin 60, or Henry you would buy from your local gun store.. You'd just pay LESS for the one at the super store because they buy THOUSANDS at a time, and your local dealer might buy 5..
There is such a thing as a "volume" discount, and from all I read WalMart is the MASTER of getting the best price for anything from the manufacturer they sell in their zillion retail outlets, but you can bet your "depends" there is not a manufacturing line specifically making Quaker State Oil or Marlin 60's OF A LESSER QUALITY than the one you buy from a local store.
IF any proof of that was floating around we'd have known it a long time before now.
There is No doubt the "Glenfield" line of Marlin-Glenfields came about as a lower price point rifle for folks who needed one, but everyone knew the wood, or whatever was not up to the standards of the dedicated Marlin guns. That's ok.. Just smart business.
I WOULD welcome anyone with PROOF that the guns sold at WalMart are inferior to those sold by your local gun store..
No offense to anyone, but "urban legend" and absolute truth are entirely different things.
Best Wishes,
Jesse
P.S. And for those folks who were offended, here's a photo of our 8 mo. old mini-Aussie Jodie.. You can't stay mad at an old guy who loves puppies can you?
