Lever Action (repeater) Recommendations

I just sat down this evening and did an smooth up job on my new Rossi using Steve's Gunz DVD as a guide. The DVD was very good. I am pleased with the end result.

I opened this thread only because someone called a lever action a "repeater." What is this, 1870?
LOL Same here.

BTW, buy the Rossi. I've got one in 357 from the 70's great gun. A friend has one in 454 Casull, great gun. Another friend has one in 44 Mag, great gun. For $500, you can't beat'em.

Well, I did, I got a Win 94 in 44 Mag for $500, but that was abnormal.

PS, once you have the rifle, pick up a Ruger Security Six in 357. Nice matched pair.

It's always interesting when proper terminology confuses people.

I love the 1873! My Uberti .38-40 is a great shooter but they're no lightweight and the .357 will be even heavier. I think they're best as big bores.

Here's the Davidson's page for a color case hardened Rossi .357 but it's out of stock.

Not very difficult to add one threaded hole for a tang sight. I did this for my 1873.

I do agree with CraigC... my Uberti in .357 is not a lightweight! I also have a Browning 92 in .44 Magnum and THAT is a light rifle! I wish they could trade calibers! If you could find a Browning 92 in .357, that would be a sweet rifle.

The Braztech Rossi's 92 rifles with 20 & 24" octagon barrels are drilled and tapped for tang sights. Get the Marbles tang it's well worth the $$

I assume you're referencing me. Do you go into a gun store, point at a lever action and say "show me that repeating rifle."

Its right out of a Western novel.
"Bad news Snuffy! The injuns got repeating rifles!"

"show me that repeating rifle."
No, I'm usually more specific than that.

You do understand that not all lever actions are repeaters, right? Do you not understand that some folks might use the term to differentiate between a bolt action single shot and a magazine fed "repeater"??? If you think "repeater" is such an outdated term, maybe you should get out more?

Craig, back in March I bought a Miroku-made 1892 Winchester take-down with a 24" barrel in .32-20. I love the rifle but, not unlike your .38-40 Uberti '73, it is darned nose-heavy... take-down, rifle (24") and the .32 bore leaves a LOT of steel up front.
Both my 20" barrel Browning B-92 in .44 mag and 16" Rossi R92 in .45Colt are much lighter.
Big Bore? Yup, it would work ..... but I ain't given up the 24" 1892!!!!!!:D

There's a lot of steel in them octagon barrels but I don't hold it against tem. That said, I've been wanting a .357 rifle and think the 20" round barreled carbine will be my choice this time.

You must be fun at a party with that sense of humor.
Usually a party consists of talking face to face to actual living people. Not exchanging written (often poorly so) messages on a computer screen.

I would get another Rossi Model 92 in .357 if I were so inclined. Have been very pleased with the overall quality and quick handling of my .45 Colt carbine for a number of years now.
