Lie detectors may be next step in airline security

I don't suppose our illustrious Senators, Represntatives and "Honorable" Judges would have to endure the same tests, do you?

The only thing that these tests show conclusively is what member of society you are. The "Ruling Elite" will not have to take them, common serfs will.

:fire:

TSA: ...describe in single words, only the good things that come in to your mind about... your mother.
Traveler: My mother?
TSA: Yeah.
Traveler: Let me tell you about my mother...

Shamelessly ripped off from QuarterBoreGunner's post!:D

Oh, I don't know...might not be such a bad idea, if they'd trade the lie detector/voice analyzer tests for prohibition of weapons and searches.
Of course, that's easy for me to say, I've "beaten" both machines, much to the astonishment of the folks providing the tests.:neener:
Really, I don't see why anyone flys commercially these days. I did it 3 times last year, for the sole purpose of locating a new house, and I will never do it again. It's not worth the hoops, and it's a violation of the 4th amendment, if we want to be honest.
If it were the airlines requiring these searches, fine, private business, private rules. That is not the case. We have a government agency requiring private enterprise to perform searches, and requiring these same businesses to use government employees to do the searching.
Ah well, SSDD.

"Sir, are you a terrorist?"
"No." (For in my mind, I am a freedom fighter, prepared to martyr myself for Allah and his will, so that I shall enter Paradise.)
"And, sir, do you plan on doing anything illegal on this flight?"
"No." (For in my mind, I am not bound by your petty laws, for I am serving Allah, and his will, which is all the law that matters.)
"Thank you. You may pass."

The machine does not detect the truth. At best, it can determine whether or not you believe what you are saying. I was involved with a case involving a rapist, who (somehow) convinced a judge to allow testimony about how he passed a polygraph and CVSA (Computerized Voice Stress Analysis) when asked if he raped the girl. However, both experts admitted that as long as he beleieved he didn't rape the girl, he would pass the tests. Since he truly believed she was willing, and it got rough because she liked it that way, he passed the tests.

A terrorst, motivated by religious zeal, will likely be able to pass the test, as any general question will not cause the necessary voice-stress.

Good points and the basis for why Poly's and VSA's are not used more... The techniques taught by the Christians in Action and "others" allow you to use your beliefs to beat the machine and the operator. Also, meds, especially those that use some of the antihistimines would cause you to fail because of the induced stress, raised heartrate, BP, etc. from the meds.

further proof that the two parties have no clue what liberty is.

Did you read the article? It's an Isreali device being tested in Moscow by Russians. No mention of US political parties, or this device's potential use in America, at all.

Oh, that'll be fun. I fly ~10 times a year, and get the extra security goodness about 7 out of 10 times. Guess the torn up jeans, milsurp boots, Op Ivy T-shirt and extensive peircings don't help. ("Randomly marked ticket" suuuuurre)

Partial threadjack: anyone know what that big new machine is? The one you step in and it blows little jets of air at you? Got that one for the first time this month at BWI.

Haven't heard of anything like that. I'll probably experience it when I go thru there next week :uhoh:

It's either an explosives detector (literally, it sniffs you), or a thank you for flying their airline.... :what:

And, thinking about flying, can anybody explain the need for the rigamarole involved in carrying a gun in checked luggage?

You give the gun to the airline when you hit the curbside (or counter) checkin, and you get it back in the non-sterile baggage area. Does anybody think that if you intended to jump a counter or shoot your way through the Security area, anything would change?

While I think not being able to just carry is foolish, I'll give 'em "locked in the trunk". But this is kind of silly.

And, while I don't know the details, bomb-proof luggage containers and hold-strengthening techinques exist that would all but eliminate the extra baggage handling now being used to attempt to find problems.

It is, I think, treating us like cattle in the terminals as well as on the aircraft. I fly when I absolutely have to....

Regards,

Yeah, its weird.
I didn't mind too much though, i was running late, and the security line was LOOONG, but they had a seperate line just for that so i was through in like 5 min.
Kinda worried it was a chemical detector of some kind, as i had been trap shooting all day and must have been soaked in powder residues.
That might have ended poorly :D
