I have been trying out some different guns at the range, looking for something that works better for me than my current choice.

I have tried the Glock, Para LDA, and the Sig P226. The Glock really isn't my thing. The Para had the best trigger in a DA, but the Sig was by far my favorite to shoot. I have never had a pistol that was that soft a shooter (except for .22s). It would be perfect if it weren't for that lonnnggg, heavy DA pull, and then the transition to SA.

So is there one out there that has the best of the latter two. Light consistent DAO trigger, with P226 shootability?

I've only tried the LEM once on a USPc & liked it, but in 9mm, I'd suggest one of the new P2000s w/ LEM.

The P 2000 is very nice , DAO with an 8 lb trigger. For a smaller gun the Kahr is also nice , also with an 8lb DAO trigger.

There are a couple of SIG options. One is ordering a DAO pistol (or having SIG convert a DA/SA pistol). However, the pull is still lonnnnng.

Coming sometime next year is a new trigger from SIG that IIRC will be DAO but will have a significantly shorter (and somewhat lighter) stroke. Due to changes in the frame, SIG has advised that it won't be possible to convert existing pistols.

Two other options to consider are the Walther P99 QA and the Kahr 9mm handguns.

If you really want DAO how about a SP101 in .357 or .38 Special

No question, CZ-75D PCR. Light, 14 round mags available. Accurate, reliable, CZexy.

SIG pistols can be ordered from or converted by the factory to DAO with about a 10-pound pull weight. The stroke is still pretty long, however.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

JNewell and James Bondrock, thanks for the info on converting the Sigs. I didn't know that was possible. You are both correct however. The pull would still be long and heavy so I wouldn't gain much for the investment.

45R, thanks for the suggestions. Had a P99 for about a year. Didn't like it well enough to keep it. Like them even less with S&W cut in the slide. Kahrs are nice but I prefer a gun that holds more BBs. Same story with the Ruger.

Pilot, I like CZs. Tell me more.

10-ring and mete, are you speaking from experience on the P2000 and the LEM trigger. This is a fairly new piece of hardware and I haven't heard much about them. Inquiring minds want to know.

Sig is introducing its' new K trigger

Approx 6 lbs and short stroke

Currently taking LE orders

Should be in gunshops by next year

The ONLY thing you need do to get a lighter D/A pull on a SiG is...

...install a #17 mainspring. They are available from Wolff for 6 or 7 bucks.

Obiwan, that "K" trigger option on a P228 would be pretty sweet. I'll have to watch out for those if I don't find something before then.

Or send it to "actions By T"
Maybe I have reached curmudgeon stage or something. Nothing against all the great gunsmiths out there, but if I spend several hundred bucks on something it should be what I want out of the box. I shouldn't have to send it out for hundreds of dollars more in work to get it right.

Lighter mainsprings will work in almost any gun. The problem is you can get too light and not get good primer strikes with some ammo. The first priority for any gun is reliability. Mods that make a gun ammo sensitive are not a good idea IMO.

Garrett, www.hkpro.com is the best source for info on HK stuff. It's still confusing but what they sell here is called the P2000 US, which is DAO and comes with an 8 lb trigger which you can have HK armourer reduce to 5.5 lbs . It also has 4 different backstraps so it ought to fit anyone. There is also a compact version on the drawing board. They are available 9 or 40. A very nice gun.
