Hello all,

I came across an interesting P226 a few weeks ago at my LGS. All black P226 with nickel accents, night sights, and no accessory rail.

The salesman claimed it was an NYPD overrun gun, like this one:

Except the one I saw in person has a nickel finish decock lever, indicating it's a DA/SA trigger. As far as I can tell, the NYPD P226s come only in DAO with a bobbed hammer.

I'm sure this isn't the USPSA model SIG offers -- it didn't have the beavertail or the accessory rail, and the price was way too low.

Did SIG ever make NYPD 226s in DA/SA? It's also possible that this might be a USED NYPD 226 that was converted to DA/SA, but the gun looked brand new. I suppose it could've been a safe queen though. I'm definitely going back to check it out again; hopefully it's still there.

Thanks! :)

If you decide to purchase it, it should be on its own merits, not because the salesperson told you it was ex-NYPD, which I doubt. AFAIK, they never authorized a DA/SA for patrol officers and detectives, only DAO. There is a slight possibility it could have been issued to an elite unit that did not have this requirement.

The NYPD 226 is a true DAO (not DAK). The trigger pull is real heavy. They also had nickle controls. Maybe 6 months ago there were a bunch for sale by Top Gun Supply I believe. There was a long post on one of the web forums (Sig forum?) about them. I remember it because there was a great photo of a female NYPD officer carrying the 226. If the gun you saw had a decocker maybe it was one of the overruns and someone converted it to DA/SA.

Whether the gun really is an 'NYPD' model isn't important to me. What caught my eye was the price -- about $100 less than the other SIGs in the case, the lack of a tac rail (not a huge fan, though I can live with one), and the nickel accents.

I was skeptical of the sales guy's story too once I got home and discovered the NYPD guns are DAO.

If it is indeed a NIB overrun gun, then I don't know what to make of it.

A used, converted DAO seems more likely. Like I said, I'm going to try and take a closer look at it to try and figure out what it is.

It wouldn't make much sense for someone to sell a phony version of the NYPD model since they were selling for $200 less than a regular SIG. These guns were unloaded at a discount because no one liked the 12 pound DAO trigger. I bet a lot of people who bought these overruns converted them the DA/SA.
