I'm looking into getting a light for my shotgun, but all the surefire seem to be really expensive.

What other options are out there?

If you look at the forend I linked above you'll notice that the forend is as long as the forend that comes with the 870. I like to hold the forend closer to the trigger group so I need a forend that is long.

Is your shotgun an 1100/11-87, or an 870? The forearm pictured is for the semiauto Remingtons...

Best bet right now IMHO for shotgun lights are the new LED offerings that are rail-mounted. There are rail mounts that fit under the magazine caps for 870s, or that you can attach to magazine extensions if you have one on your shotgun. And there are a lot of other rail options as well.

Using a rail-mounted light lets you remove the light entirely when not needed or for daytime practice/training, use the same light on different firearms etc. I see no real down side to rail mounted lights and a LOT of advantages for them. And the light/mount are usually a good bit cheaper than a dedicated SF fore-end as well. The LEDWave Z-5 can be had for about $50, in its incandescent incarnation (don't see why it isn't available in LED yet), and there may be less expensive options also. Shop around...
