I am thinking about buying an AR 10 for hunting purpouses. What is the lightest one I will find?

Probably the carbine, unless you want to spend a lot of money. If that's the case, talk to ABS and GAP about a carbon fiber barrel.

I dunno - I don't think that it wouldn't be hard to get one down to eight pounds and change (unladen).

The Armalite A4 carbine is already right at 9lbs; replace the steel gas block with an alloy unit (EGW is my fave) and you're already losing weight in all the right places. Replace the steel barrel nut and standard forearm with a free-float alloy unit and you'll likely drop another quarter pound.

I have a 20" rifle with a Gov't profile barrel and JP float tube that weighs in at just over nine pounds with scope mount and a Sightron SII mounted.

DPMS 16" bbl with a collapsible stock and simple round tube forearm should be under that weight.
Will check when I get home.

i have not seen a CF for the 30s yet, does someone make them?

edit: nm, I see them in the DPMS catalog. Read right past them before :(

Thanks for the help guys any more info would be apprciated. I want a semi auto for hunting and have never even thought to look at the AR style but the more research I do the better it seems.

My 16" carbine weights in right at 9.5 lbs unloaded w/ iron sights but no optics. It has an Armalite fiberglass free float tube.
