Well,
Here I am, back in the USA after a 6 month deployment...

Any way, I stopped at my "Favorite" Pawn shop to say hello to my "Favorite"
merchant... Whilst conversing and exchanging pleasantries I spotted a T/C Hawken .50 on the shelf... :uhoh:

We dickered a little bit and the merchant explained "It doesn't work.. In fact I think it's LOADED!"

(I wrote a similar thread about this type of situation a month ago)....

I immediately saw that the Set-Trigger adjustment screw was turned all the way in, dropped the ramrod down the barrel and heard a dull THUNK....

After a deal was reached, I came home with my little treasure. Took off the trigger assembly, oiled and adjusted it.

One cap, one loud BOOM and I was ready to clean her up.. Overall it's a decent piece with a little cosmetic wear and decent barrel... :p

I think I did fairly well for $140 out the door :neener:

A little gun savy can go a long way uh? Good deal. Good gun. It's a good life. hee hee

lightning strikes twice

How did you know it was loaded with black powder and not smokeless? chuck

Yeesh, you're a braver man than me. I'd have pulled the old load.

Very simple grasshopper

I unscrewed the drum clean-out access and trickled a little of the powder charge out... Compared it to Black and Pyrodex (visual and taste test). Crude but extremely effective. It was definately Pyrodex.....

Even then, I sandbagged the gun on a picnic table and used 20' of fishing line to touch her off. It wasn't a very hot load after all.
