I noticed that PSA carries a 16" midlenght pencil profile AR barrel that takes a .750 gas block but of course they are out of stock. Does anybody else make such a barrel? I'm looking to do a midlength with a Noveske switch block but Noveske only makes them in .750.

Also, has anybody tried the Syrac adjustable gas block? I like that it has a detent to prevent the gas setting screw from walking but I would prefer it not need a tool to adjust. Any other gas blocks to check out which won't self adjust?

I think you're talking about the lightweight midlength PSA with the government profile barrel. Under the handguard it is .625" and from the gas block forward it's .750". However they do call it a light profile.

A few months ago I bought one expecting a pencil barrel like my BCM that has the .625" FSB so at first I was disappointed but after weighing them stripped, the PSA upper only weighed 2 oz more. I expected at least 4-5 oz and still don't know how they did it but they do call it a special lightweight barrel. They get from FN but I don't know if FN supplies this barrel to anyone else. It's a nice compromise between the pencil and gov't profiles and has the advantage of the standard size gas block if you ever plan to replace the FSB. I am very pleased with this upper now.

Anyway, like you I'd expect a pencil barrel to have the .625" FSB like BCM and Daniel Defense - so this is new.

Sorry, no answers to your questions though.

JP Rifles offers a 'light contour barrel' which is .650 under handguard, .750 for gas block and .740 infront of gas block. You can order them with or without their own adjustable gas block and compensators.

Are you talking about the one linked below? It does list the weight as 1.6 lbs as opposed to a standard pencil barrel weight of 1.45 lbs.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Yes that's it JustinJ. PSA does call it a lighter profile, not government or pencil/lightweight. By my measurements it does fall in between, approximately 2 oz heavier than the pencil.

Here's a picture of my PSA upper stripped:

Details

Barrel: 16" Chrome-lined, chrome moly vanadium. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, with a 1/7 twist, M4 barrel extension, and a mid-length gas system. The special light profile barrel is high pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected and then phosphate coated. Barrel is finished off with an .750" diameter F-marked front sight base with sling swivel, standard handguards and an A2 flash hider. Barrel is made for us right here in SC by FN Manufacturing.

Prices definitely have gone up in the last month or so. It's now $320 and I got it for $270.
