I've owned several Browning Hi Powers over the years, but I had never encountered an alloy framed BHP in the flesh until last week when I bought this one. The lightweight aluminum frame makes the wonderful handling qualities of the Hi Power that much better, feeling lighter in the hand and quicker to point, as well as easier to carry. I've added C-T laser grips, and I have a few other changes in mind for the gun (C&S wide trigger and extended strong side safety to begin with), but I have found my new carry gun. Here she is, in all her police surplus beater glory:

Here's mine, recoated by Novak's. Sights, ambi safety, and grips were the only real modifications besides refinishing. .....................

I remember Browning did some alloy frames, but I haven't seen any in years. Decades? Good buy.

I wonder why they don't do a current run of the BHP with a polymer frame.

I've had two BHPs, starting 40 years ago, and still have the one I bought in 1981; I expect I'll have it until the end. I'd still buy a polymer-framed one, though.

AIM had a batch of these awhile back....I failed to jump on one before they sold out (in one day).
I regret that decision because those things are almost as rare as hens teeth.

They are quite rare; this is the only one I've seen in the flesh after five years of prowling gun shows and pawn shops. I bought it from a guy on a local board who had, in turn, bought it from AIM some months back.

They are still showing up on gunbroker, but more like $799 now, instead of $450-$500. Way back when, I bought two, and sold one for a $150 profit after shipping and fees. That reduced the price of the one I kept down to $350. Nice place to start when customizing a gun. Then later on, I found another and had to pay $550 for it out the door. The first got Robar's NP3 treatment, the second got Novak's re-anodizing and whatever finish they put on the rest to match. I thought it was going to be matte blued, but I think it is something else, but more durable than bluing. Matches the matte anodizing on the frame well.

Those are some good looking BHPs.....wouldn't mind a close up shot of those wood grips.
