Ok well, I have the itch for a new firearm, and I'm thinking I might just sell off (a few of) my pistols to get it.

Enter the AMD-65, widely available for around $450 including shipping.

Found a shop that'll transfer for $30.

With shipping an AMD65tech stock adapter comes to $42

That's all I really need, but being a tinkerer/delta bravo, I'm also considering a Tapco galil handguard, set of rails, and short vertical grip ($51.37 with free shipping, and yes, purely cosmetic (have you seen that thing?))

I'm thinking it's a deal considering modern going rates and whatnot. My question is this With the AK style rifles how exactly does compliance work? For example, if I put a US made FCG, handguard, and PG on, am I legal for using surplus mags?

Thanks.

Did somebody say AMD-65?

TGI AMD-65
Hogue pistol grip
Red Star Arms retaining plate
Midwest Industries MI-AK-SS-X handguard
Blackhawk Rapid Adjustable Sling & HD Swivel

With that big muzzle brake and separate front sight/gas block yoy might be able to go lighter with a M10 with polymer handgaurd.

A quick google search lists the AMD at 7.1 lbs and the M10 at 7 lbs. I don't know if those figures are correct however.

Hizzie, how do you like the MI SS extended hand guard. I've been considering one for a while.

AR guys will spend $1000 to save weight, AK guys do more pushups (with our rifles if we like).

I really like the feel of it. It doesn't add so much weight as to throw off the balance that the AMD-65 starts out with. The MI-AK-SS-X requires chopping off the handguard retainer. I had to take a really deep breath before firing up the dremel. I haven't got it to the range yet. Can't comment on how hot it gets or cool it stays. MI is supposed to have something bolt-on for the heat if it is an issue for you. I was told a bolt-on handstop for the SS was coming too. I was gonna make one out of a Pearce mag extension.

Hizzie, I did not know that MI made an AMD handguard. That's good to know.

LSLD, I'd suggest you get a US-made, muzzle break (1 Part), trigger group (3 Parts), grip (1 Part) and forend (1 Part) for a total of 6 US parts, that will allow you to use and mag you want.

AMDs are cool and can be set up in a lot of ways. This is, by far, the coolest AMD I've seen...

Hizzie, That is one secksy AMD. Ive been considering a build similar to that for awhile. Didnt know AMDs were an option, good to know. Nice job!

OP- Maadis are generally the lightest AKMs due to them using pencil profile barrels. Thats what I currently use.
