What do you guys use as a sharpener in your hunting pack? Looking for ideas on something lightweight which works well. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Any specific recommendations on brand, model, etc.?

I carry a small sharpener in my wallet all the time. Years ago, I took a Eze-Lap model L diamond hone, cut off most of the red plastic handle and it goes in the zipper part of the Eagle Creek tri fold wallet. Doesn't weigh hardly anything, but lets me touchup my knife anywhere, anytime. I'll use the back of my belt to give it a stropping afterward. The 600 grit medium hone puts a very nice cutting edge on a blade.

It's my personal belief that if you carry a knife, you should have something to touch up the blade. Modern compact diamond homes make that possible.

I use Chef's Choice Pocket Diamond Hone Series 480 sharpener in my hunting pack. It works well for a putz like me who can't even touch up a screwdriver tip without ruining it. It is very light and keeps me cutting in the field.

The DMT in fine/coarse or extra fine
The DMT Extra Fine is about like a sheet of glass!

Too fine to be of much use for anything a Steel wouldn't do as well.

The Red & Blue / Fine & Course one is what you probably want.

I carry an EZ Lap diamond sharpener with me at all times. I open boxes all day long and that tends to dull a knife, and the EZ Lap is good enough to put an edge back on. I picked it up for around 7 or 8 dollars.

A little Norton Orange colored India about 1" x 3" works well in the field also.;) It is what Randall used to put in their bigger sheath pockets.

My knife is ALREADY sharp when I go afield and I really don't see a need for any kind of "touch up".
Well, I guess if you never use it, it won't get dull and you won't have a need for a "touch up". If you use it, sooner or later you'll need to do a "touch up" unless you don't mind using a dull knife.

JohnKSa,
I'm talking a knife for dressing out an animal only.
At home I have Butcher knives and a meat saw for further processing.
A "touch-up" between "gutting" and "de-nutting" hardly seems necessary.
However, my field knife is ALWAYS sharp!

On several of my hunting knives I just had the knife maker include a hone loop and diamond hone on the pouch or sheath. If need be I can do a quick touch up but usually it takes several animals before a touch up is needed.
