Limit of Scope Magnification for CQB

I really think iron sights are terribly under-rated and under utilized.

I'll confirm that.

I suspect it has something to do with an inborn human desire to customize things. I am generally not much of one for bells and whistles on guns but I did get a set of tritium inserts. Allows for a very functional sight picture after sundown.

What is wrong with the iron sights on the rifle?

I have to wear my reading glasses to use them
There's one answer...holographic sights and red dots are in the same focal plane as the target, so people with less than perfect vision can have both the target and the sighting system in perfect focus at the same time.

The biggest problem with iron sights, IMHO, is that they are almost unusable in poor lighting. I did some informal testing with my SAR-1 around my house at night, and found that even when there was sufficient lighting to positively identify a target, there was often NOT enough light to see the black front sight clear enough to use it.
