It's Alliant Unique for me in everything I load. I'm simple that way except that Unique doesn't want to measure/dispense consistently but you get used to that after a while.

I've used Bullseye, WST, W231 and Clays and liked them all in 45.

I also used Longshot once, but found I needed to load it up near the Max load for decent performance in the 45 ACP. Now I save the Longshot for 40 S&W JHP loads.

I assembled my first cartridge in 1969, my first .45 ACP in '81.
I've used Bullseye,Win 231, Unique, HS-6, IMR 700X and VV N340 and had good results with all.
I like the VV and Hodgdon powders because they fill more of the case and it's easier to see the powder level in the case.

I like VV n320, Bullseye, Titegroup. I wouldn't have normally bought the VV N320 but come into a large quanity buying a press. I have since learned to love it. Funny how things work sometimes.

45 ACP Powders

W 231/HP 38, Titegroup or Red Dot for lead. Power Pistol & Titegroup for jacketed/plated works for me.:)

Walkalongs right about the manuals and the chart numbers.

I was going to make caliber lists once, and shrugged that same advice off, and spent way to much time trying to compile a list of some sort. I found myself going in a big circle eventually, and found that the best "list" is found in the data of the manuals.

Hell, it started feeling like I could find 75 powders for every caliber if I looked far enough, but many are not perfectly suited i guess, so in the end it just kept coming back to the 12 or 15 powders (or whatever number) that kept popping up in the manuals.

700-X has been my main 45 ACP powder since 1980.

I have good loads for Accurate #5 and Unique so that I have back ups when I cannot find 700-X.

There are other good powders for 45 ACP as well.

I love Universal for my 45 and 40. It gives me the most accurate charges with my Lee auto disk powder drop. I believe it's the texture of the powder. If I set it for 5.7 grains that's what I consistently get. Here in Southeastern N.C. powder supplies are getting better but not for Universal. Gun show coming up this weekend , hope I find it there. Only have about 1.5 pounds left.

I'll probably continue using 231/hp38 since I just found two more 4lb jugs of 231 in my cabinet after buying an 8lb jug of hp38. Gotta do some sorting!

Why should anyone have to get used to anything when there are so many good choices out there? IMO Unique is so popular because at one time it was one of the only games in town. Now it's only one of many dozens.

When the great shortage hit I was not prepared and ran low on bullseye but I came across some Red Dot, Green Dot and Blue for the low power magnums and the Dots seem to be cleaner burning. Red Dot loads almost identical to Bullseye. Green Dot loads are just about 1 grain less than Unique loads. Also found many reloaders didn't know that you could use these powders for handguns, so the powders were available.
