Although I'm pretty tolerant/adaptable to different control layouts, my wife just doesn't seem to enjoy shooting a semi-auto pistol unless the controls are in the old 1911/BHP layout. That means: frame mounted safety in a down-to-fire orientation so the thumb can ride it; slide stop/release lever above the trigger on the left side; and mag release at the corner of the trigger guard and grip.

I'd like to see if we can generate a list of all the pistols that match that format. No safeties on slides, nothing that lacks a safety, nothing with a decocker, nothing with a mag release on the magwell, etc. (Sorry Beretta M9, HKP7, Glock, etc.)

I'll try to start it off:

1911
Browning Hi-Power and clones
CZ75B (non-decocker)
EAA Witness
Armalite 24
Browning Buckmark (.22)

The Smith & Wesson M&P Series come with or without a safety - and I believe it functions as the 1911. However, the slide release's body is inside the frame rails, rather than outside.

S&W 422, 622, 2206 in .22

I believe the Model 41 has very 1911'ish controls as well.

You can add most of the other CZ full size and compacts derived from the full size models to that list as well. Unless fitted with a decocker they all share the same 1911'ish controls from what I've seen.

CZ82
Taurus PT111 and similar (sort of, at least)
Endless 1911 variants and derived designs - I'll highlight the Springfield EMP but it is just a start
Ruger mkIII and 22/45 (older mkI and II had a heel release)

This might be a good time to get a bucket-o-guns together and try a bunch out, you won't have too much trouble finding stuff in the 1911 control layout.

Thanks. I've got a couple in that format, just trying to get a fairly complete list. I suspect I will not be buying any in the near or medium future that aren't in that format.

H&K USP
H&K Hk45

eta: mag release is technically at the corner of the trigger guard and grip, but its the lever type and not a button.

OP - the M&P series that have the thumb safety do not have a mag safety,,, the BHP does,,,, if that makes a difference...?

Browning 1911-22
