A little over a month ago I completed the state mandated training to get my CCW. Only problem was that my state requires you to present your original birth certificate when you apply (even though I had already done that for my driver's license  ), so I had to wait until I could get that from my parents, which happened to be over Thanksgiving.

This morning I was getting everything together to hopefully swing by on my lunch break and drop everything off, but when I went to get my folder that had my course completion certificate, something (water, I assume) had leaked onto it and smudged all the text. :banghead: Some of it (including my SSN) is gone completely. There is a carbon copy that is still readable (my instructor has one as well)...

So should I go ahead and take this to the DMV and explain to them what happened, or try to get another copy from the establishment where I took the course?

Call 'Em

Dave,

Give DMV a call, explain the situation, and ask if the water damaged original, a carbon copy, and your birth cert is enough to move forward. One phone call will give you the course of action.

Best of luck,

John

Why didn't I think of that?

Just got off the phone with them and I'm going to have to get a new completion certificate. Hopefully they can just fill a new one out for me...

You have to leave your birth certificate with them?
No, just my application and course completion certificate. And then I have to schedule an appointment at the police station to be fingerprinted for my background check. Not sure if I have to take that stuff back to them or not, they're not very concise as to how everything happens...

Birth Cert for HCP? I did my application back in April, no need for a birth certificate back then.

Stuck from my email address that I chose in high school, which still makes people chuckle to this day and that can be a much appreciated foot in the door on certain occasions ;)
