Anyone do a fluff and buff type polish on the AP primer slide.?
I called Hornady and the Tech said it is "normal" for the slide to be dinged up from hammering into the primer punch? Guess I do not think that dings and dents are normal?

So has anyone polished or rounded off the edges, sides, whatever to make the darn thing work each and every time?

One or two out of 50 the thing sticks and doesn't deliver a primer. Do not know if it is the slide or the primer punch?

AND.....

Whats with the last primer hiding in the tube? It shows itself then it doesn't , cycle the press ,no primer, then oops there it is?

Just trying to mess with me or what!:uhoh:

Yes I have watched this guys video, there are so many!!!

And this guy who put me to sleep and wants to re engineer the whole system, Soon as some good old boy says "take a little meat" off.
Ain't going there!

I cleaned up the track where the sled runs on mine. I also removed the lower front square edge of the sled. This allows it to handle a little debree without causing primer feed shaving due to it's not all the way forward. As for primers not feeding, (assuming every thing is adj correctly) use a primer follower on the stack of primers. I took a spent primer and epoxied the cap to a rod, small on one end. large on the other. Also marked when I have 10 primers left. It does not take much weight to make them feed consistently and smooth. The rod will lock the sled back when it's empty too. Mine is dialed in so you can not out run the primer feed no matter how fast you want to run.

this is what bothers me. I just sanded the underside "tracks" and edges with wet dry and buffed it with polish. It's as smooth as it can be. But the ding in the primer cup is still there. (which is what Hornady says is normal)?? Before buffing. Press is NEW only a few hundred rounds, have not even tried small primers yet

Keep the 'machined groove' in the sub-plate that the primer slide occupies free of debris

The priming system is the main reason I was glad to see my LnL AP find a new home. I could on occasion get 100 good feeds in a row. Never did get 200 good feeds in a row.

Call em up again and see if you can get another one sent your way. I don't like that ding either. BTW, I just looked at all of mine (4) and no ding.

Have also heard that some primer shapes work better than others, but I have not encountered that.

I remember having a small issue with S&B primes. They are sharper than other primers I was using. All I did was hyper polish the primer tube outlet and the inlet hole of the slider. Also having a bit of weight on the primer rod helped.

Here’s what I did.

Polished the shuttle with extra fine wet/dry sandpaper.

I use the white fiberglass rod as a follower. Marked a ring around it with a Sharpie to indicate when it is down to the last primer.

I cleaned all priming parts whenever I added a new sleeve of primers (every 100 rounds).

Over time it wore in a little and became less sensitive to getting fouled by grit. I can run hundreds of primers between cleanings now.

I did exactly what Blue68f100 did I used 600 wet/dry sandpaper to get mine perfectly smooth. I tried his primer glued to a rod trick thew the primer tube and if you pull the primer bracket back until it causes resistance pulling it out it sets the primer slide about .002 past dead center which is perfect.

Now, I last adjusted my primes on May 23, 2015, on all four of my Ammo-Plants. I have had only one primer misfeed since then and it was because I didn't clean the "primer gunk" out of the primer slide track after I swaged 2000 pieces of brass.

Now as far as that second video. I'm only going to say this one time."OIL AND PRIMERS DO NOT MIX" not even a little. I use graphite. So you are not going to "take a little meat off". I think someone hit you in the head with the smart stick.

The ding in the primer hole "slide" is everyone else like that?? Post #3??

I took my LNL-AP out of the box, mounted it, cleaned and set up the press and started using it. The only thing I found with it was that I wasn't cycling it fast enough to make the shell plate cycle the whole way to the next detent. A quick adj of the pawls took care of that.
Priming worked perfectly. The only thing I have found that will mess up the priming mechanism is the dirt that comes out of the primer pockets from depriming.
It seams to get into the primer seating punch assy and after a while the priming will starts riding high and can interfere with the movement of the shell plate. Take it out and clean it, re-install it and it is back to working perfect again. I clean it about every 10000 rounds and it's performance is the last thing I have to worry about on my press. It just works.
I only use Winchester primers in it so I can't speak to the other brands of primers.
I put a piece of electrical tape around my follower, looks like a flag, when it touches the flag it's empty. I just recently bought some deluxe control panels for my press and have it installed but between two hurricanes and putting in a hard wood floor for my wife so the press got put on hold.
I'll get back to it.
I bought three of the deluxe control panels for $19.00 each on 90% clearance.
After seeing the setup of one of these deluxe control panals which I don't consider to be a problem, I'm considering sending Rule3 one of these to put on his press for the entertainment factor but I'm afraid you other members will figure out where I live.

I was ready to pay full price, when I walked into this deal obviously it was a no brainer. I think I will love it also. I haven't got to use it yet and I already like it.

Mine is over 10 yrs old and doesn't look that bad. 100K+ through my press. Yours is almost lost all of the alignment cone/bevel.

I had to put a small bevel in the top of the primer slide where the primers drop in. S&B small rifle primers were dropping in and the second was dropping just enough that the second primer was locking up the press. 10seconds with a chamfer tool folllowed up with some fine grit sand paper and I was done

:)

Sometimes, a person just needs a break from all the entertainment,,,

And who is this "Rule3" you speak of?

;)

I don't know if it is "normal" or not, but your experience with the peening or dings in the shuttle are not exclusive.

Here is a shot of my shuttles. I did need to get a replacement SP shuttle because the roller pin is pressed in and during one changeover, the pin came off and the entire roller, pin and spring went flying and I lost the pin. The priming system was still working fine up until then. You do need to make sure the track is clean especially with range pickup 9mm which tends to leave a lot of brass shavings due to the wide range of case resizing needed.
