LNL AP problems

Just got my LNL setting it up today had two problems First sometimes the primer slide doesn't slide the whole way in . Second the loaded shell gets stuck between the spring and shell plate instead of ejecting. The primer slide hung up 2 times in the first ten I lubed it with dry lube and loaded about 90 and it started doing it again. The loaded shells seem to hang up randomly maybe 15 in 100 rounds

What shellplate are you using and which caliber are you loading?

Remove the primer slide and look for burrs or rough spots on hte slide. If so, smooth with 600 grit sandpaper and a little oil.

I assume you don't have the new EZ-ject version of the press, it came out at the first of the year. If you call Hornady they may send you a conversion kit for free. If not, it is only $30 and well worth the upgrade. I just did mine and it works perfectly. Your problem of not ejecting is the reason for the upgrade.

That sounds like there may be some debris in the primer seater plug. Take it out and depress the button on the bottom and blow out real well with Brake Cleaner or compressed air. It should seat flush.

something as small as a grain of powder - I got so frustrated at first I forced mine into 'demolition' mode' - The folks at Hornady had a new one to me so fast I hardly noticed I broke it (the slide, that is). Great folks, good customer service, even though by now they are a bit frazzled with all of us 'newbies'..

You might try unscrewing the outer tube on your primer setup about a turn or two. Make sure the inner tube is still pressed fully down.

I had the problem when using the larger primer tube when loading 45's with the primer slide hanging up and this fixed it. (Well, I guess this didn't really fix it but the primer system started working just fine.) Since it worked, I didn't "trouble shoot" the problem.

I think we got the first one I had been checking powder weights every couple shells spilled a little. some found its way to the primer slide

The spring is supposed to be in the groove under the shell plate as it enters station 5 and back up as it exits station 1. shouldn't have any issue with the spring after that.

I had a similar problem with my LNL when I first got it. I had to "align" or "center" the primer tube base with the slide. First you'll need to remove powder drop from the press. Remove the primer tube and raise the ram to the top of it's stroke. Using the properly sized allen wrench, loosen the primer slide base and while looking down into the hole, center the primer slide's hole with the hole in the base. You'll need to center the slide to the base each time you change primer size. You can fix the slide using sandpaper or a grinder and "bevel" the area where it's buggered up. Hornady sent me replacements for both my large and small slides but I haven't had to use them yet. The fix I described above has been working just fine.

Most of the guys gave you excellent hints on the primer problem. One more thing to check; make sure you insert the primer tube the correct way and is fully seated. The tube end that has a small groove cut in the end is the end that goes INTO the primer feed. NOT the "plain" end.

Now, for the shell plate/ejection rod hang ups. Take a Dremel felt "bullet point" polishing point and charge it with green compound. Polish the rim/lips on each shell station on the shell holder. Also, polish your ejection rod to a high gloss. Your ejection probelms will be solved.

In the beginning, I had a terrible time with 9mm hang-ups. I have not had a single hang up since I polished the edges on my shell holders and ejection rod.
