I am looking for a little help on my LnL AP. I bought last year and have loaded thousands of rounds on it. About 2 weeks ago the shell plate started sticking. I'll pull the handle it will cycle to the next station then randomly the shell plate will jump a 1/4 inch or so. It doesn't happen all the time it's completely random. I removed the shell plate cleaned it and reinstalled and again randomly it jumps. Any suggestions? As always thanks for the help!

Mines brand new but it had the same thing happening, and I added a little graphite to the base and it seemed to help.

Do your pawls need to be slightly adjusted? I would try the graphite or dry lube first though.

when it cycles to the next station do the ball bearings drop into the detents and then jump out or is it cycling short and then dropping in? cycling short may be a pawl adjustment to push the shell plate slightly further on rotation. I have never had mine jump out of the detents once it was there.

I will need to see if the bearings are popping out when I cycle. I have never adjusted the pawls. I am nervous about playing with them. Murphy's law always seems to follow me :) thanks for the help I will give it a try.

It is cycling short and then dropping in? Does that mean I need to adjust the pawls? Thanks

Yes, When you adj the paw make very small adj, 1/16 turn is normally all it takes. Adj the paw for the speed you run the press at for maximum smoothness. If you have good hearing you can hear the double jump. If not you can normally feel the jump if you let your fingers ride lightly on the shell plate.

If it is just dragging, then it may need to be removed and re-installed. Pull up on the screw to pull the hub up to the underside of the shell plate when tightening the screw. When mine drag a little that is what I do. Always cures it.

If it is short cycling, you do need to adjust the pawl. Make very small adjustments to the pawl until it cycles properly. It doesn't take much to correct the problem. Your manual tells you which pawl to adjust depending if the alignment is on the upstroke or downstroke. If both need adjusting, do one at a time until it's right and then do the other one.

Sounds like I have a few things to check out. Yes I do lube the bearings on the shell plate. Thanks for the advice!
