I finally got another turret for my press and want to set it up for .45 185 gn JHP. I just ran some dummy bullets and was getting an OAL of 31mm. What's the min OAL for a JHP round? Also, using Red Dot or Unique what are some of your favorite loads for this round?

Thanks!!

For my Colt 5" I use 5.7 grains of W-231 under a 185 grain Remington JHP or Hornady 185 grain HP/XTP.

For my Kimber 3" I prefer 7.7 grains of WSF with same bullets as stated above.

OAL for both is 1.190 to 1.200.

I use Rainier Plated 185 grain bullets with the same data for practice on the range.

I just converted mm to in, and found that

31mm = 1.220" , kostyanj. So, you're in the ball park. If your strip-and-feed / chambering works well for you, then you are good-to-go for setting up the recipe.

Like The Bushmaster, I tend to use 231 and WSF for these loads--and I haven't built them in some time, so I'll forgo those comments.

Yeah, sorry my caliper is metric so I have to do the conversion every time. Now that I know I have the settings correct, I'll just have to wait to get my shellplate carrier back and I'm back in business for .45

1.230 to 1.235 for 185 & 230 Gr Golden Sabers. (Shoot for 1.233 so they fall between 1.230 & 1.235 O.A.L.) (XTP's too)

Thanks guys. I just have to work it out to mm and I'll compare to my loads once I get my shellplate carrier back from Lee.
