i just bought some a while back, i picked up 200 for $20!! anywho, i like 'em with w231. i am loading 3.8grains with c.o.l.@ 1.095 i believe. I don't have my manual in front of me, but i'm pretty sure that's what it is. seems to perform pretty good for me in a Glock 26. i'm a newbie to reloading so, i'm just glad to have it go bang each time and have it cycle reliably!! hope this helps.......hvychev77

I have found 4.2 - 4.4 of W231 with a coal of 1.120 to be my favorite.

i'd like to know where that recipe came from, i think my book says max. load is 4.0 grains @ 1.095........then again, i still don't have it in front of me. just too lazy to walk out in the hundred degree heat to my shop to look at it.......

Jay from Berry told me that Hodgdon would be posting data on their web site for Berry plated bullets by the end of the month. So you might want to keep checking that.

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

My CZ did not shoot as good with the 124gr HP, it liked the 124gr FPHB and the 124gr RNHB much better. The 124gr HP's frontal area is so large that they don't want to run up the ramp in my Kimber either. I don't count the HP as a "don't ever do it", but it's not one of their better efforts.

I shoot mostly Berry bullets in my CZ and 4.3gr of W231 seems to do very well with all of them. I do have a reduced weight recoil spring in that gun, but I've seen the numbers 4.3 and 4.4gr over and over on this web site and others.

I have cz and plan on ordering barry bullets. Which bullet are you shooting with that 4.3 gr load. And would that be the low, mid, or high end of powder?

My bad on the 4.7 I run 4.7 on 115's and 4.2 - 4.4 on 124's and these are on the mid to high side but feel very good through my XDM and Kimber ultra egis II.

i looked on hodgon's site last night after reading this thread and there was no info. on there yet. i gotta mow grass today, so i'll look in my shop at my book since i was soooo lazy yesterday!! haha........

I loaded my first 9mm ever last night, 124 gr hollow point Berry's, and used 5.3 gr of Power Pistol with COAL of 1.12. Have not shot yet though!

I am not a fan of 231. Dirty as heck (have to wash to my elbows after shooting), and I find higher velocities with something that burns a little slower.

my manual states that col@ 1.095 and it's 3.4-4.0 grains of W231. I'm loading mine at 3.8 grains, and it cycles reliably enough, but the slide doesn't stay back on the last round though. I really won't wanna run any hotter, so, i'm gonna research some more data. let us know what you come up with or if any of you guys have different ranges with W231 powder!!!

I like the 124 gr RNHB by Berry's, I load 4.5 gr of Universal Clays with 1.12 col. Works with all my 9mm.

Berry's sight says to use low to mid FMJ for the plated bullets.

I've fired thousands of Berry's 124 plated through my various 9mm pistols using 4.2 grains of 231. I do not consider it a particularly "hot" load. As far as 231 being dirty, almost any propellant, including VV will be dirty when minimal loads are utilized. At lower than 4 grains with a 124 grain plated bullet, I have encountered unrelaible cycling of the action.

I am newer than new and my head starts spinning with all these numbers. I really enjoy and appreciate everyones posts.

What I came away with as a first load for berry 124 hp is 4.2 col 1.095.

I have shot thousands of Berry Bullets in my Glock 19 & Berrys recommend to not make your loads hot & keep in the Middle or low Veloisty. I am very pleased with the Berry Bullet out of my Glock.

No data posted for 9x19 or 45ACP as of 7/30. They had better hurry to make it by "the end of the month"!

W231 is too fast of burn rate for my taste. I like HS6 and Longshot for both the 9mm and the .40 cal.. Those powders really perform well in those cartridges for me in all of my handguns, G17, Beretta 92F, XDM, and various Taurus's including sub compacts and full framed models.
The strange thing about the G17 which I bought new in the 1980's hasn't ever been reliable with anything except my hand loads. It didn't matter what factory I tried, it would have cycling problems?

i just recently started loading.the 231 is all i have for now ,my first loads i did a few weeks ago cycled great in my firestar useing it with some win. 115 grains my uncle had.
but now i have a whole new problem.in stead of ordering the berry's,i went to a local gun shop and picked up a box of hornady xtp 115 grain in 9mm luger.
the problem,is now ive gone through every data manual i can get my hands on and cant find data for these useing win 231:cuss:.is it ok to use load data for 115 grain jhp with these useing the win 231?

In my CZ 75 D PCR I had to seat these bullets pretty deep 1.05" to 1.04". Any longer and they would stick in the chamber. I used 4.3gr of W231/HP-38.

Berry's 124 HP bullets are my first choice for 357 sig range rounds.

is it ok to use load data for 115 grain jhp with these useing the win 231?

Several thoughts...
• If your manual doesn't list Win 231, sometimes they'll show HP-38 instead. That's the same powder being sold under a different name. You can use the HP-38 loads.

• You can go to the Hodgdon web site and find loads for the XTP and Winchester powders since they now distribute Winchester. http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

• If all else fails, the XTP is a jacketed 115gr, so you can use the data from any jacketed 115gr. BUT, you must begin at the starting load and work up. The difference between the other jacketed bullets and the XTP will be made up for by starting at 90%.

Hope this helps!
