Hello all, I can't seem to find this bullet in my books or the web. I've contacted Hornaday twice to no avail. I'm too new to reloading to wing it with data from other similiar bullets. Could someone point me in the right direction for load data for an AR and bolt gun. Thanks, C

I know you don't want to use the data from a similar bullet, but you may have to. Start at the minimum and work up.
From my log: For a Bushmaster 1:7 20" barrel the loads I have for that are with AA2230 a start of 23gr and a max of 26gr. 25gr went to a group of .97" @100yd off a bipod and rear rest. The same rifle and bullet with H335 started at 24gr ended at 27gr and the best was ..72" with a charge of 26.5gr.
For a Howa 1:12 25" barrel: H335 same start and stop loads, but the best was a max load (DON"T START THERE!!!!) that went .52" That wa the only powder I put behind that bullet in that rifle.

Both used Winchester brass and CCI primers. My notes for OAL of from the diameter and won't help you. Sorry.
It is noted that I went with a 40gr Nosler BT in the Howa (that later became a pet of mine). The Bushmaster did just as well with 55gr pills so I stayed with them.

+1 to getting a reloading book.

Your favorite powder, reloading tools or bullet company will have a book. I think Redding offer ABC of Reloading or something. I have a Lyman, Lee, and Nosler book, as well as all the free handouts I can a hold of.

I like Benchmark, AA2230 for 50gr bullets in .223. I would also try H322, or W748. All of these are easy to measure in powder dropper.

Although I stuffed some Varget and R15 in a case and the 50gr V-Max did well, there is some effort involved stuffing enough powder in for the nice 3200-3400fps the 50gr is capable of doing in .223.

I have three reloading books, Speer, Lyman, and ABC's of reloading, none had Hornaday 50 Grain VMAX, hence my post. Thanks to all for the replys. Since I use a lot of Hornaday bullets I may have to add a fourth book to my collection.

Wait.....what was that??....I think I heard 'Ol Joyce turning in his grave.......LOL!!!

Get the book, it's worth every cent. ;-)
