Need load data for Hornady 75 gr. A-Max in .223

Can anybody provide me with load data for the .223 Hornady 75 A-max? If anybody has the Hornady Reloading manual and could scan the relevant page I would appreciate it. I have several reloading manuals and the "Load Book" for .223, but none of them list the 75 gr. bullet. I plan on using W748 since I have several pounds on hand. When I use this up I am thinking about switching to Varget.

hornady 5th ed. list 75gr a-mak for the 5.56x45mm nato as follows for win 748. B.C. is 0.435, COL: 2.330" starting load 20.2gr at 2200fps, 20.9gr at 2300fps, 21.7gr at 2400fps, 22.5gr at 2500fps,23.3gr at 2600fps and max load at 24.0gr at 2700fps. Sorry I couldn't scan it for you?

Have used these with 24.0 of RL15 or N140 at 2.380 OAL, should be able to use same load with Varget at same length. Can probably up load some, but watch carefully. When primers start showing pressure, ease off before you start popping primers. W748 worked great with 69 gn SMK's, but too fast for 75's and 80's at best velocity in my rifles. S/F...Ken M

No need for me to look. I know E6M's background...his info should be good.

My suggestion for hot match ammo is to avoid Winchester primers and use Rem 7 1/2 instead.


WAIT: Do you need AR-15 data? E6M's load shouldn't be a problem but it wil not fit in the mag. OAL on .223 is 2.260"

Steve, 75 A-maxes should be loaded to 80gn SMK length for 600yd. I have not used them for mag length and IMO should not be used this way. S/F...Ken M

I have not used any of the Hornady bullets for HP, but I know quite a few Masters and a HM or two who use them. They don't use them at mag length for 600, but they do use them at mag length for 200/300 work.

75 A-maxes at mag length? *** would they do that for? That bullet is as long as a 80 SMK, if not longer.

I use the 75BTHP with excellent results with the same loads at 2.260, but hadn't thought of using A-maxes at mag length. Had some issues with the old A-maxes(large tip) losing their tip and going squirrely on occasion. Would show up as an occasional miss at 1K yd line. Might have been a bad lot of bullets, but notice that Hornady has redone the tips on the A-max line about 18 monthes ago or so. S/F...Ken M
