I am wanting to load some "plinking rounds" for my S&W 500 Magnum. I have 440gr cast flat points. I have data for 440gr gas checked lead bullets but the velocities are far higher than I want to go. I would like to stay between 1,000fps and 1,100fps. I will be using Lil'Gun powder.

The load information I have lists 440gr GC bullets starting at 30.0gr and maximum of 35.0gr. Starting velocity is 1,485fps and maximum was 1,653fps. Both way faster than I want to run.

What would be a good place to start my work-up? 25.0gr, 27.0gr, or lower?
I don't have a lot of brass right now so I can only load maybe two steps before I work up the brass. With this large of a charge what size step should I take 0.5gr or 0.2gr?

Thanks,
Grumpy

IF you have access to some Titegroup, my Lyman manual list the GC version with 14.5gr @ 1187 from an 8.375" barrel.

Don't know how that might work out for you but it is "close" to where your wanting to be...

Maybe if you found some Trail Boss you might be in better shape. I can't honestly say, I have a bottle I got two years ago and haven't even opened it yet.
