All,

I need to work up a load for my .270 Win using 150 gr Nosler Partitions.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks

I've had good results with H4831. Look in a manual for powder weights. I've had best results with max loads in bolt actions.

When I was working through some loads for mine, I found the following powders worked great, H-4350, IMR-4831, H-4831, RL-19 & 22, Accurate 4350 & 3100, and Ramshot Hunter.

I finally settled the argument and went with the Ramshot Hunter, and a 130gr load. This load would hit the best velocity with awesome groups and with the 130gr SST will flat out roll a deer or hog out to 300yds.

With the 150's it was basically a toss up with the top mentioned powders. They all shot very well, and most produced good velocities. Overall the differences would not be very much and would probably be up to the rifle deciding the end result. With my particular rifle, it seems to digest anything I put into it, making finding a good load more a matter of which powders I have the most of on hand.

Redhat,

I have used the 270 Win Federal Premium 150 grain factory load for buck mule deer and cow elk hunts. That load is listed at 2850fps at the muzzle & 2705 ft.lbs at muzzle. I looked in the current Nosler #6 Reloading Guide and the load that comes closest to the Federal factory load is 57.5 grains of IMR 7828 at muzzle velocity of 2862. That is listed as the maximum load with that powder!
However the "most accurate powder tested" was listed as
52grains of H4350 with muzzle velocity@2782.
Hope this helps.
