...ANYWAY

Went to the range today with my 38 snubbie.

First 5 shots were a laser beam like always, all within a 2" circle at 30 ft. But after the barrel heated up, by groups opened up. I was all over the copy paper sized target by the time my 100 rds were up.

This is some pics of the bore after 100 rds. Does this look badly leaded to you all? This is my first time shooting my own cast bullets... I'm not sure what a leaded bore looks like.

You've got some pretty heavy leading in the forcing cone and barrel. What kind of lube are you using, and what size are the bullets sized to?

Hope this helps.

Fred

try to push a .358" diameter bullet through your cylinder throats. if it goes, try one at .359". use the diameter that just barely fits through your throats.

murf

p.s. ya gotta clean the lead out of the throats before you do this.

If .358 is causing leading... why would I want to go bigger?

My mold drops at .361 and my sizer sizes to exactly .358.

The .358 drops though the throat, the .361 does not. I dont have any inbetweens lol
The revolver was cleaned right after taking the pictures.

Maybe so you don't have to lube the bullets twice.

No. Increasing diameter STOPS leading. Leading is caused mainly by gas blowing by around an undersized bullet. Gas is weightless and accelerates past the bullet before the bullet even thinks about moving. That gas cuts lead off the bullet and deposits it ahead in the bore.

If they drop right through the throats, then they are too small. They should have to be pushed through with a slight resistance.

What I was trying to get at tye, is that everybody that sizes and tumble lubes essentially has to lube twice, you didn't do that, perhaps/probably leading to your bit of leading.
If you don't size, you only have to lube once. Since I'm lazy, I'd try some of those slugs unsized out of my revolver.
good luck

I would not be foolish enough to hunt with a 9mm! the bullet dia. is just to small to do anything on a animal better off with a caliber that starts with a 4 to get the job done right.I herd people killing a black bear with a 22lr but that's just not the NORM and you might get lucky with a kill shot from a 9mm but do you really want to get that close.

This thread is not about hunting with the 9mm. However, you make me laugh.

tyeo,

use a brass rod and good lubricating oil if you are going to pound that bullet through your chamber throats (yes, virginia, ya gotta do all six). don't want to gouge a throat with a steel rod.

Done,

After all 5 chambers in my Taurus 85BBQ, the bullet got swaged down to .3595"

What does this magical number mean? I need a .360" sizer? Would my .361 droppings (lol) work fine without being sized?

Yes it would.

As long as the loaded rounds will fit in the chambers.

Over-size is not nearly the deal breaker under-size is.

Making them fit the bore is what the forcing cone is there for.

.361 may work fine.

Since it requires no extra work, I would try them and see if they chamber OK and shoot well without leading. My curious side would then try them at .360 as well.

You want a .359" sizer. After springback, your bullets will mike .3595". Cast them soft so they'll bump up to seal the .0005" of difference if any at all.

Go to castboolits.com , contact Buckshot, have him make you a .359" sizer for $27.

I'm gonna down the load a bit to accommodate the increase in pressure from the larger dia bullet.

I'm gonna go from 3.5 to 3.2 grains bullseye

Maybe I should I rework the load completely, but I'm not checking accuracy now. I'm just trying to cure the leading issue.
