Heaving loaded a bunch of high capacity magazines over the last week my thumb is hurting and to the point of giving out. I just loaded four magazines this morning and my thumb is complaining.

There has to be a easier way.

So I am looking for choices in loading tools for high capacity pistol magazines and high capacity AR / AK magazines.

With my sore thumb I am interested in a loading tool that operates by squeezing it with the finger. Hicock45 uses such a tool in some of his videos. How well do they work?

In addition I also want a tool for loading high capacity AR / AK magazines?

p.s. The loading tool I use now slips over the top of pistol magazine and I have to push down on it for each round. It makes it easier but still gives me a sore thumb.

I have used an Uplula for a few years for handgun calibers and it works very well. It is flawless for everything between .380 and .45. I have arthritis in my left hand and can use it all day with no issues.

They do make these for AR and AKs but I have never used those. If they work as well as the handgun version, I would recommend it.

Even if you don't get the AR or AK version, do yourself a favor and get the handgun version.

I have mag loaders for all my guns.
Maglula for my AR and Uplula for my pistols.
They are a thumb saver.
I also use the ultimate loader for Mark 2 .22 mags.

I'll third the recommendation for the Uplula. It works great, seems very well built.

When loading 15,16,or 17 rd mags, for casual target shooting, I'll often just load 10 rounds at a time, and call it close-enough.
It ain't like there's any real pressing NEED for 17 rounds to be in the magazine when just out plinking. It's a pain in the ass cramming all those extra rounds in there, and 10 rounds slide right in with no grief.
(right here is where the chest-beating mall ninjas will typically chime in about not wanting to get subconsciously conditioned to firing less than 100% full mags, else they'll be at a critical disadvantage when the big Revolution/ Apocalypse comes !! :D )

I have the UPLULA for pistol magazines and it was well worth the money I spent on it.

For my Mini-14 mags, I have a device called a StripLULA and it makes the job a lot easier. The same loader can be used on AR mags.

For the AK mags there is a thing called the Galil:

For pistol, I just got an Uplula, and it is the best money I've spent in years. Didn't know what I was missing... should have got one a LONG time ago. So consider this a 5th/6th/whatever recommendation.

I love my uplula and my Glock loader works fairly well, too (for Glock only of course).

I would recommend you shorten your load sessions/rate and let that thumb rest before it gets worse.

Like others, I scoffed at uplulas until I tried one. They're just faster and more comfortable. The way to go.

stonecitter2,

I would like to except I have 6 more magazines that need filling. I have a new gun coming with two more magazines. And I am in the process of buying some more magazines.

However I only have four loaded rounds left so I need to have a reloading session before I can fill the rest of them up. Let's see. 15 rounds x 8 mags is 140 rounds.

Oops. I miscounted. I found another 6 magazines that I need to load. I will ordering a Uplula as soon as I decide on the color. Thanks guys for the advice.

When I was in my 20's, I had no problem loading mags of any handgun caliber, but now, my thumb will hurt amazingly bad (Since it looks ok) after loading up almost any high cap mag, so when it started bothering me, I bought a uplula, and it's great. I have a couple of other loaders and only one, which appears to be a clone of a uplula really works well.

Another innocent thumb fallen victim to gun lobby sanctioned high capacity military style bullet clips just as it was turning its life around. :)

Use Pmags in your AR, its easier on your thumbs. Everyone swears by the UpLula.. if I was using USGI mags I's get one.

I use and HKS lever type loader for my hi cap 9mm mags. I load well before any competition so I'm not stuck doing it on the range when I could be running a clipboard or binos.

Uplula

The AR Uplula is even better if/when you have to unload a magazine the un-fun way

I regularly use an Uplula loader for 30 round Beretta 92 mags, as well as stuff as small as a 1911 magazine, and it works great on both. Just squeeze, push down, and drop one in. A flat surface to stand it on will help.

I also used to own an Uplula AR15 mag loader, where all you do is rotate a lever up and back. That also worked great. I sold it to a friend along with a lot of mags and ammo when I got out of the AR game.

Uplula is the answer to your problems, and they are definitely worth the price IMO.

UpLULA

I have a UpLULA for my 9mm and my Cold 45.
It works great with them.
I have a baby UpLULA for my Kimber 22LR conversion for the colt and it does not work for it.
I would like to fine one for the kimber 22LR conversion, anyone have any ideas???

I believe that means you're out of practice? ;) Try loading more often (and thereby of course, shooting!)!

If I am loading a lot at the range, the Maglula products sure are nice, especially if I am loading 9MM AR mags.

I haven't used one of these, but they seem to work like magic in the videos of them on youtube. I think basspro carries them in store. My only concern would be with the plastic breaking/cracking somewhere. The reviews appear pretty solid though. It's the same price on Amazon, and I even just saw an AK version for $65. Thats the only downside I see so far, the price.

Looks like major over kill!

Once you use the Uplula, and MagLula products??

There is no sound reason to spend that much money on an unproven product.

I agree. Uplulas are far more simple and less expensive. I don't know why anyone would waste time and money on that Caldwell monstrosity.
