I need to work up some loads for my HK MP5 (9mm)
I have not shot reloads thru my full autos - so what works for you?
On hand I have some Winchester 147 JHP or Montana Gold 125FMJs and for powder I have Tightgtoup, VV N320 or Win231.

Thoughts on bullet types and velocities would be helpful.
Thanks.
Paul

I am wondering the same thing myself...

Id like to work up several loads.... May even use lead bullets for plinking if My new MP5 clone will eat them.

My USP eats them all day long.

I would like to work up loads for my MP5 for :
Lead bullets, range plinking
FMJ, General purpose shooting/plinking
124 gr and 115Gr JHP bullets for defense.

I have store of 231, power pistol, unique, #5, #7 for pistol loading. FWIW My MP5 is a semi version (for now) with a short barel and fake can. (Until i can SBR it).

Lead bullets are bad news for a MP5, Glock, or any firearms that have polygonal rifling. What happens is the lead builds up in what serves as the grooves and is difficult to remove. As the lead builds up, pressure increases and you can find yourself with bent locking rollers in an MP5 at least and do other damage to the gun.

Don't use plain lead bullets in any firearm that has polygonal rifling.

In talking to a MP5 owner, you'll need hotter loads to cycle the thing. 147gr bullets with fast powders won't do the trick. Your 124s loaded hot should be in the ballpark. (By "hot" I mean top of the listed loads, don't go crazy on me!)

I have a spreadsheet of loads I have tested for my nines. All are within manual specs. You are welcome to it by sending me a PM with your email address. All loads were shot over a F1 Chrony.

Take Care

Bob

Borsig, I'm glad you haven't any problems with lead bullets. The issue I mentioned above was told to me by both H&K and Glock factory reps and have seen some experts quote. To my knowledge some have actually damaged Glocks using lead bullets (damaging a Glock is a hard thing to do), cleaned them up and sent them back to Glock and after Glock found lead in the barrel told the owners they voided their warranty.
