I just purchased a PTR 9CT MP5 9MM clone and the manual says not to shoot reloads or handloads. I am a pretty new reloader, but I have had good luck with 4.1gr Bullseye, 124 gr Berrys' plated RN bullets at OAL of 1.145" with CCI #500 primers in my M&P 2.0 and my Shield 2.0. I am wondering why I can't use that load or even a load with Power Pistol (I have a couple of pounds) and 124gr FMJ bullets with an MP5? Does the fluted chanber have something to do with not working with handloads? Any help or experience with loading for MP5 would be greatly appreciated.

Every manufacturer says that same thing voids warranty. Can’t blame them lots of people blow up guns.I’m a handloader always try to make my best and safest ammo .Never blew up any guns .Fingers crossed. if you’re reloaded ammo fits and is safe I see no reason why it would not work.

Yep, like Bob sez, most if not all firearms manufacturers won't warrent their guns if handloads are used...

I agree that most all manufacturers won't warrant their firearms if handloads are used. That usually does not stop someone from handloading, but most handloaders follow the handloading manuals and load data information from more than one source, always checking - double checking. Using the load data recommendations will normally give safe operating loads, that will not damage a gun or someone shooting it or observing.

Most, if not all manufacturers say reloads will void any warranty. That is a CYA thing for them as they have no control over what you make and run through it. They expect you to use factory ammo that is thoroughly tested and has their liability on it should the ammo be the cause of a problem.

That said, most of my guns have never seen a factory round, and never will. I have been loading since 89 and went many years shooting ~16k a year with no failures. If you are confident in your abilities to load safe ammo within spec, have at it. If you are not completely confident(and be honest with yourself), stick with factory or commercial reloads until you get more experience.

Only problems I have had is shooting my minor 9mm (heavy bullet/fast powder) (re)loads from MP5SD’s. They are ported past the chamber to make 115’s subsonic, so there is not enough pressure to make them function. A regular MP5 runs just fine with them.

Most any manufacturer will tell you to not shoot reloads because anyone can reload ammunition. Some of them make things that destroy ammunition because they don’t know any better or just don’t pay attention to what they are doing.

I have lost track of how many guns I have purchased new that I have only used hand loads for ammo. I would venture to say that my ability to reload reliable and safe hand loads is far greater the the gun manufactures ability to manufacture quality guns.

I have had far more bad guns than I have had bad hand loads. And I started reloading in 1965.
