Interesting...thanks for posting. Guess it's good to have a few slugs laying around after all since I'm always losing keys... :D
 
I wonder how dangerous it would be to do it the proper way-from the top down?
Not sure I'd care to try that.

I dont fancy getting a whole lot of fast moving lead splashing into my legs and face. If I really needed to blow a lock off a gate I wouldnt be standing all that close to it, regardless of how much more effective it would be.
 
i'd have loved to see the inclusion of the 338 and the 300 winmag.

There has got to be a point at which the rifle performance is matching that of a shotgun slug. Maybe the above two could do it, maybe you have to go to 300-378 weatherby, or 458 win or something.

I've only done it once. A 44mag using 300 gr XTP and H110 handloads from 25 feet. It was worrisome but successful. I shot at a slight angle to allow for splash. I would not repeat the experiement just for the fun of it.
