Just thought I would let everyone know what to expect when ordering from these guys.

First off I have ordered from them in the past and they have spoiled me with their service. Their prices are low, the site lists their current inventory for each item and their service reps are very knowledgeable. Most of all their items have always shipped quickly and arrived in good order, that is where my only disappointment comes from.

I ordered the GLOCK Model 24 threaded barrel. I got it with their "blind markings", AKA not with their logo plastered on the top of the chamber, and I had the thing blackened with their black oxide process. Now I am guessing that they had to start from a block of steel on this one as it took over a month to receive. I tried my best to be patient but I am just not that kind of fella. We get what we pay for and all good things are worth the wait so I suppose all is well that ends well but I just thought you guys may be helped by knowing in advance that they can take a good while to do what they do up there.

The barrel itself features a feed ramp with a higher angle, i would say two or three degrees. It is also more rounded, deeper, and ends nearly exactly where the chamber begins; which lends to much more support of the case ( I will not argue as to whether or not it is needed).

The chamber is quite snug compared to the factory barrel. There is some play when you insert a round into the factory chamber, side to side and up and down, this is all but eliminated in the Lone Wolf. One thing I have noticed is that if you chamber a round, have a magazine inserted with at least one round, and try to cycle the slide by hand the base of the chambered round tends to catch on the mouth of the round in the top of the magazine. This can be over come by cycling the slide with authority, quickly, but is an error I found in a friends Lone Wolf barrel as well so don't be surprised if you experience this.

The threads are clean and free from burs and the finish, once cleaned for a few hours, looks almost factory.

I have ordered a slide from them as well as a compensator, there will be a silencer for this pistol in the future, and I will be sure to update here as well as add a YouTube video or two once I get the whole thing put together.

My intentions here are to turn my factory Model 22 into an OPEN gun for IPSC. The Model 24 is no longer made by GLOCK, for whatever reason, although you can still find a few on GunBroker. I wanted to do a threaded barrel anyway and figured I could just use my stock frame for the project.

Wish me luck and I will definitely update as to the outcome of the project.

Molon Labe!

P.S. The treads of this barrel are standard Land and Groove, but what is NOT standard about them is the twist! The factory GLOCK is right hand, or clockwise, just like every other barrel I have seen. As a lefty I am happy to see that the rifling here is also left handed, counter clockwise... for once...:neener:

Lone Wolf Barrels

Could you get us a web site. It sounds like something i need on my favorites list. Thank you.

Sounds Like Great Service

Let me get this straight; you special ordered a barrel from a manufacturer when everyone is running like crazy people to get orders out because they are years behind on orders and it only took a month.

And I am not complaining, per se, but their website had the item listed as in stock. I was giving them a review and had to try and find some negative in my experience to keep things from being biased. That was about the only thing I could come up with and felt it was something people should be prepared for. Their site lists the turn around for a refinish on your glock parts as two weeks, I really would not have expected things to take that long but now if anyone decides to order from them they will be better prepared that I was for the wait.

Cannot say as I have yet to receive the slide. I have a 22 right now. I have received the barrel but still not word on the slide. I do not shoot another comp until the 4th of July so I suppose it can wait for now. I will be posting some youtube vids and picks when I have everything put together.

UPDATE:

As of 7/7/2009, I have had yet to receive the slide ordered on 5/19/2009. Called customer support, again, today and was advised that the slide had been sent off with the current batch to be blacked by an apparent outside company. This has to be the fifth time I have called and been advised that the slide is out for the Black Oxide process. Having a hard time believing that it takes two friken months to blacken a friken slide but left with no other course of action I resigned myself to a further wait.

I have installed the Lone Wolf guide rod and 22lb recoil spring, along with quite a few other modifications to the firearm. This morning, while test firing the weapon before a match I experienced a few instances of fully automatic fire which prompted my call to Lone Wolf. While calling for tech support I decided to speak to a rep about the slide and received the news reported above. "Fine, just transfer me to a tech to assist with the malfunction please..."

I spoke with Dan in tech support and was quite impressed from the get go. He was extremely knowledgeable, as one would expect, polite and we quickly built report. He confirmed my suspicion that the sear was letting go of the striker early, during the release and reset of the trigger after firing and he advised that the sear needed to be captured to a minimum of 60% by the striker. I found that my own was significantly less and with the increased poundage in the recoil spring the forward momentum of the striker was enough to escape the sear prematurely. With his advise I was later able to correct the malfunction but while still on the line he asked if there was anything else he could do for me.

Now I am not normally much of a whiner but I mentioned the friken slide and inquired as to his ability to speed the process. He promised he would do everything he could and I let him go not expecting much however the results of his efforts have prompted my post today.

I received the text below in an email from Lone Wolf a few hours later:

Jay,

We are sending in your slide in for blackening today. It takes at least 10 days to have ready to send it back to you. We have to put it through quality control before we can send it out to you. We are sorry it is taking so long, unfortunately it did not get sent in on the last order as we thought it had. Thank you for your order.

Best Regards,

Diane / shipping

Two friken months and I am back to step one. Outside of the assistance given by Dan this morning, I am thoroughly unimpressed with this experience.

I can say that I have tried the Lone Wolf Glock 24 threaded barrel and Lone Wolf compensator in my Glock, with the 22 slide, and have as of yet experienced no malfunctions. I am shooting Blazer Brass 180gr at their full power with the 22lb spring with no issues, other that the full auto thing this morning. I will be developing a hand load for this setup once I have the slide later this month, with the blessing of all of the gods that may be.

So in short a big thumbs up to the workmanship and quality of their products and to tech support and an even bigger thumbs down to the customer service end of the business.

Got the Slide in! Bout time. Things went pretty quick after they finaly got started. I have quite a bit of work to do but once everything is setup proper I will post a report.

Range report:

Nothing but trouble to begin with. The striker alignment with the primer is ever so slightly off which led me to reinstall the factory striker spring, I have the Ghost Rocket 3.5lb kit installed normally. The channel in the slide that the striker is housed in had some slight debris in the face of it. Once cleaned the issue persisted. I ran about 300rnds through the gun with the factory spring and reinstalled the Ghost spring today and fired 50rnds with no issues so hopefully that was just a break in thing.

This slide and barrel combo will not work with older Glock mags. I think they are on gen #4 now, whatever generation mag it is I experience feeding problems with all others so I have to invest in a few new mags now as well but they do advertise that it is designed with the latest Glock specs so I suppose that is to be expected. The feed angle on the older mags is slightly lower so I have reasoned that to be the issue.

The dove tail for the rear sight is ever so slightly loose and I had to use a dab of red LokTight on the rear sight to keep it in place. No big deal really I just wish I would have known before I paid a gunsmith to install the thing (I am using the factory adjustable rear for now).

This setup will, for some reason, not feed soft lead bullets. When designing a load for it I purchased 1000 moly coated lead bullets from my local shop only to find they would not feed. If we left them at the maximum overall length, 1.130" for 180gr, the fed properly but would stick in the barrel if you tried to clear the weapon. Any shorter and they would jam on the top of the chamber and feed ramp. Using some nearly identical bullets with a hardness rating of 18, the ones I had purchased were tested at 12, the round would chamber without issue.

That pretty much covers all of the issues I have experienced, now for the good news.

The 6.49" barrel yields 100-200fps more velocity than a standard 4.49", Glock 22, barrel. This means I will save some money on powder in the long run and any personal protection ammunition I use will get a little extra zip.

The added sight radius will certainly help out and the comp helps to keep it flat during recoil.

The Lone Wolf website advises that you will likely need to add a lower rated spring to the guide rod when using this combination with a reduced load but I still have the 22lb spring installed and have yet to find reason to change it out.

This is definitely a unique piece at this point and it gets plenty of attention at the range. I heard the question "Is that an "open" Glock?" more than once at our latest IPSC match.

If anyone can advise on what they feel to be a superior silencer for .40 cal please let me know!
