I know the laws concerning short barreled rifles, but is there anything against long barreled handguns, i.e. >16"? The reason I ask is that I've never seen any Contender or Encore handgun barrels longer than 15". Is there anything legally wrong with using an Encore rifle barrel with the handgun grip? I can't think of anything, but perhaps someone might.

Yes, I know it would make it a long and unwieldy handgun, but for someone who shoots varmints only off of a bipod, a little extra velocity from a long barrel couldn't hurt.

My 444 barrel is a hair over 17" with the brake. I know several people who shoot the 18 inch carbine barrels with pistol grips. Just don't get confused and put your carbine stock on your 10 inch barrel. Not only is it illegal, it looks really stupid. :D

If your pistol has at least 16" of barrel you can legally put a butt stock on it, too. Some outfits have offered 1911 kits with 16" barrels and detachable butt stocks to make the pistol into a carbine. Just don't put on the stock without the longer barrel.
