Long Bullets in 300 Savage?

Recently I have been loading for my Ishy 2A, using Hornady 165gr flat based bullets. I also used these bullets for when I have custody of Grandads M99 300 Savage.
Last time I went to get more bullets the store only had 165gr boat-tail Interlocks. Boat-tails won't affect the 308, but what effect, if any is there when a longer bullet pokes down into the powder room of the 300 Savage? I am using somewhere between 42 and 43.5 gr of RL-15 depending on what I need the load for.

The base of the longer bullet is going to extend into the case and reduce its capacity, so I think it is safest to develop new loads for new bullets.
