I spent the long TGiving weekend at the wife's grandparents house on LI and got thinking about any gun shops in the area. I'd been to T&T so a wanted another to visit. Looked in the phonebook and found Collesium Firearms (?) in Uniondale. Now, I'm a great wizard of the NY/LI areas but I've been there enough to know that the brands listed as being stocked at the shop's ad just did not fit the areas surrounding the small shop. (Merkel, Bear, HK, etc...) Anyone been there to say if it's actually worth the visit? I'm heading back in Dec.

Hi Blkhawk:

I know the shop (Coliseum) and they have a pretty good selection. The HK's are probably more likely to be available. Not to sure about the others. Best bet is to call ahead. If you want to look at handguns, you have to have a NYS pistol permit to handle it. Call and ask if they will let you handle it with an out of state license. If you are interested in purchasing it from them and sending it thru your FFL person, maybe they will chance it.
Sine you are familar with L.I., in suffolk county, there is a place I go to for good prices. It's Long Island Shooting Center in Islip. Check out their website
www.lisc.net. You can check prices and get directions. Their phone # is (631) 665-7011. Whoever you choose to visit, call ahead to see if they have what you want in stock.

Good luck,

Jim

yeah I live about 2 miles from coliseum guns. MEH! it dependes on what your looking for. They mostly have .22 cal bolt actions and some hunting stuff. but very little in the way of Military surplus rifles or "Assault" rifles. plus everythiing is tied up so you can't just open up the action or whatever. Also, Pistol regulations are very strict! they won't even let you handle a pistol without a permit, and no, they do not reciprocate CCW. just having a pistol in NY state witout a permit is a class D felony! but they are friendly and mean well they just live in the belly of the beast! :banghead: T&T is really the best for shopping(looking) then when you see a type of gun you want go somewhere else! it's just too damn expensive.

hi i am familiar with t&t they are a great shop and will go way out of there way to help a customer as far as prices are concerned marty the owner will meet any or beat any legitamet price presented to him gun shops on long island are getting rare here is a place you can stop by and chew the fat and learn all about all current tactical weapons by the way i believe they have the largest inventory i have seen and they will order anything you want also they are into the western scene any give them a try believe me i have been to all of them on long island here is a place people and sales staff are friendly also marty is a ww2 buff any give them a try

hi that last post was written in a hurry i liked to correct it but i am not being succesful any way i liked to say i have been to i beleive all gun shops on long island and i have to give the nod to t&t gunnery no matter how many times i have looked at long guns and pistils (must have permit) i have been treated with friendly words all information pertaining to the firearm and a offer to beat or match any price i have seen elsewhere (be ready to prove it) i they to have the largest selection of bushmasters and armalites and other brands i have seen and they are ww2 buffs and have a large selection sks and ak-47s also they have a large cowboy shooting section and you won!t find a friendlier guy than the owner marty its like a hang out place look and enjoy

I have been to Colisuem a few times

I am green but learning. I found the store decent as far as comparing them to the few stores I have been in. The staff are real nice and friendly. Most of the rifles I notice around the store are geared towards hunting (bolts, shotguns). Their pistols ranged from a couple of sig's (sigpro, 228, 226) Beretta (all versions of 92) Kahr, Walther, HK Plenty of revo's etc. I have been back a few times since they are down the road from me. They seem nice enough and more than patient with me while I ask my questions.

Thanx fellas. I've gone to T&T before and talked a while with one of the clerks (Brian?) Well, lets just say that after a short discussuion about what the laws are here in Maine, the yearly Class III shoot and my brother being a dealer I was presented with "anything you want to handle, let me know". great person to talk with. While a fairly small handgun inventory and mostly savage rifles, there were 4 or 5 "black" rifles on the rack. Another point for me was when I mentioned that the Bushmasters on thier rack were made 15 minutes from my house and that a knew one of the sales/T&E people there. Excellant place, kinda small and limited stock but I guess that's just NYC for ya. Heading down before the end of the year so maybe I'll stop into Collesium if I'm driving through Uniondale. (I'll be in Valley Stream & Elmont)
